Maintenance Technician III (Recreation) – Labor Grade 110 / Pay Range: $19.69 - $27.74
SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician III works under the direct supervision of the Supervisor II. The Maintenance Technician III is responsible for performing manual and semi-skilled work for general maintenance of parish parks, sports fields, grounds, and special projects including, but not limited to sports fields projects, grounds maintenance projects, recreation projects, and public works projects. This position will serve as the primary spray technician for the Recreation Department. The work may be physically demanding in nature and sometimes involves the use of light mechanical equipment to include, but not limited to ground maintenance equipment, tractors, trucks, trailers, line painters, ballfield rakes, and specialized turf-related equipment. This position differs from the Maintenance Technician I and II in the ability to safely apply fertilizers and pesticides, operate a wider range of equipment and is more experienced.
MAJOR DUTIES
· Operates all pieces of light mechanical equipment that Maintenance Technician I and II’s operate including all track style equipment. May also operate specialized sports turf maintenance equipment, back hoes, mowers, sprayers, tractors and various implements, and all parish mowing equipment
· Safely and accurately apply fertilizers and pesticides manually or utilizing calibrated mechanical application equipment
· Complete and maintain proper application records according to Local, State, and Federal regulations
· May perform routine maintenance on vehicles, maintenance equipment, sprayers, and spreaders such as checking tires, gas, oil, and other lubricants; washing and cleaning; and ensuring that equipment is calibrated and in proper working condition
· May perform various maintenance activities in and around parish facilities on parish grounds including cleaning grounds, cleaning restrooms, dumping trash cans, picking up trash, sports field marking and maintenance, cutting grass, weed eating, edging, trimming trees, pressure washing, and painting, and making minor repairs of fences, tables, benches, sidewalks, etc.
· May perform tasks related to drainage and ditch maintenance including cutting and installing pipe, digging, and clearing ditches, and clearing storm debris
· May perform tasks related to road maintenance and repair including setting up barricades, lights or flares at job sites; conducting traffic through job sites; patching asphalt, concrete, and gravel roads; loading and unloading trucks; spreading dirt and gravel; leveling earth to fine specification grades; and clearing roads of trash or debris
· In emergency situations, may be required to work at various locations, including, but not limited to, the parish emergency shelters, sand bagging locations, parish roads and other locations as assigned.
· Any other duties as assigned
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent and (2) years of directly related experience is required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS – CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
· The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, Louisiana state driver’s license.
· The incumbent is subject to pre-employment physical and drug screens with random drug testing thereafter.
· The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a current Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry Pesticide Applicator License (Category 3) or have the ability to obtain the licensure within 120 days of employment.
· The position is designated as an Emergency Essential Tier II position and as such is subject to mandatory recall to the traditional or emergency worksite. Failure to do so may lead to disciplinary actions up to and include termination of employment.
