Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Tire Technician to join our diesel mechanic shop. The Tire Technician will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and installing tires on a variety of heavy-duty diesel vehicles, including trucks, and trailers. This role is crucial to maintaining the safety, efficiency, and performance of our fleet and customer vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Tire Inspection & Assessment: Conduct thorough inspections of tires for wear, punctures, and damage. Measure tread depth, check for uneven wear, and identify any potential safety hazards.
- Repair and Replacement: Repair punctures, perform patching, and section repairs as needed. Replace tires when necessary, ensuring proper selection of tire type and size for each vehicle.
- Mounting & Balancing: Use specialized equipment to mount and balance new or repaired tires, ensuring stability and reducing vibration for optimal vehicle performance.
- Rotation & Alignment Assistance: Rotate tires according to mileage and wear patterns. Assist mechanics with vehicle alignment to promote even tire wear and improve fuel efficiency.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and best practices, including safe lifting techniques and the proper handling of tools and hazardous materials.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of tire inventory, assist in ordering new stock, and ensure proper storage of tires and equipment.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by communicating with customers about tire issues, explaining repair or replacement options, and offering maintenance advice.
Qualifications
- MUST HAVE 2 YEARS Experience: Previous experience in a tire technician role, preferably with heavy-duty trucks or diesel equipment. Familiarity with tire repair techniques and equipment.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of mounting, balancing, and repairing commercial tires.
- Familiarity with alignment and balancing equipment.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify wear patterns and potential issues.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy tires and equipment, stand for long periods, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Certification (Preferred): TIA (Tire Industry Association) certification for commercial tires or equivalent.
