Description
To provide a fun safe and memorable experience to camp participants by assisting in implementing the daily camp activities and adhering to Park District of La Grange policies, rules, and procedures.
Reports To: BASE & Camp Supervisor
Specific Responsibilities
- Learn the likes/dislikes of each participant.
- Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving at camp.
- Develop opportunities for integration between campers and camp staff.
- Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during camp.
- Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or camp problems or concerns.
- Help each participant meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
- Guide groups and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities
- Carry out established roles for supervising camper health.
- Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.
10. Supervise all assigned aspects of the camper’s day including arrival, mealtimes,
departure, and after-hours duties as assigned.
11. Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the site, etc.
12. Help campers participate in activities or camp-wide programs.
13. Assist in teaching or leading an activity, as assigned.
14. Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and meetings
15. Set a good example for campers and others by including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean up and chores, sportsmanship and table manners.
16. Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages, and use of drugs.
17. Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
18. Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy.
19. Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents and community.
20. Submit all required reports on time.
21. Understand, communicate, and assist in enforcing camp and Park District rules or policies
Essential Functions
- Physical ability to participate in the camp program.
- Ability to communicate and work with campers ages 4-12 years and provide the necessary instruction to campers and/or staff.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp activities.
- Abilities to observe camper behavior, to assess its appropriateness, to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and to apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Physical ability to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
- Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Qualifications
1. Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
2. Ability to accept supervision and guidance from Camp Site Lead, BASE & Camp Supervisor, or other Full Time PDLG Staff.
3. Ability to assist in teaching an activity.
4. Exhibits good character, integrity and adaptability.
5. Availability to commit to assigned work times.
6. At least 16 years of age or has the ability to obtain a work permit.
7. Current CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to obtain.
