Description
To provide a fun, safe and memorable experience for camp participants by planning, preparing and implementing the daily camp activities and adhering to Park District of La Grange policies, rules and procedures.
Reports To: BASE & Camp Supervisor
Specific Responsibilities
- Define and plan camp to reflect program goals.
- Create detailed lesson plans and calendars that includes a variety of age-appropriate activities to keep campers and staff active, excited, safe, and engaged.
- Set opening- and closing- day procedures with Base & Camp Supervisor.
- Develop routines, schedules, and procedures for Camp operation.
- Assign Camp Counselors activities and other responsibilities.
- Assign Camp Counselors to groups.
- Supervise and evaluate, or supervise evaluations of, all Day Camp operations and Camp Counselors.
- Maintain and review records and evaluations of all Camp activities, field trips, operations, and facilities.
- Lead field trips out of camp, organize and maintain appropriate supplies for camp site, and follow crisis management protocol.
- Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and camp counselors.
- Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being.
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
- Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents and the community.
- Understand, communicate, and assist in enforcing camp and Park District
- Instruct Camp Counselors and campers in emergency procedures.
- Submit all required reports on time.
- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be
reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required.
Essential Functions
- Ability to communicate with staff in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
- Abilities to observe camper and staff behavior/disciplinary issues, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
- Ability to identify and respond to hazards.
- Ability to communicate and work with different age and skill levels, and to provide the necessary instruction to campers and/or staff.
- Cognitive and communication ability to plan and conduct camp program to achieve camper development objectives.
- Ability to drive 15-passenger vans and to observe the loading and unloading of vehicles utilized by camp, if required.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
- At least 21 years of age.
- At least two seasons of being a camp counselor, preferred.
- Ability to supervise counselors and campers.
- Ability to address concerns or questions about camp from parents or the public.
- Ability to plan, originate, organize, and carry out daily and special programs.
- Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, and able to learn ePact and other technology used at camp as needed.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record, if required to drive a park district vehicle
