Wage: $15.00-$15.75, DOQ
The Fitness Center Attendant is responsible to provide excellent customer service, process paperwork for memberships, ensure participant safety, including the correct and appropriate use of equipment. Additionally, the staff is responsible to ensure equipment cleanliness, adherence to sanitation protocols, routine maintenance, and readiness for use.
SUPERVISION: The Fitness Center Attendant is under the direct supervision of the Facilities and Operations Supervisor.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
General Administration
1. Oversee the fitness center at all times to ensure the safety of participants and the security of equipment.
2. Assist with all phases of clerical work such as: checking patrons in for the fitness center, answering phones, processing memberships, routing verbal and written mail to staff, assisting instructors/staff, assisting with filing of park district paper work, and various other projects.
3. Respond to all injuries and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures. Complete incident reports as required.
4. Assist participants with the safe and effective use of all cardiovascular, resistance, and free weight equipment.
5. Educate participants and enforce cleaning/sanitation protocols, social distancing, fitness center rules/regulations and any CDC/government requirements regarding the safe and proper use of the equipment and facility.
6. Regularly inspect equipment and report any safety or maintenance needs.
7. Assist in custodial and maintenance troubleshooting for the equipment and the facility.
8. Clean and disinfect all equipment and commonly used surfaces on a regular basis. Staff will be on the fitness floor, alternating every hour with the second Fitness/Cleaning Attendant, cleaning and disinfecting equipment on a continuous basis.
9. Clean/sanitize locker rooms regularly, including but not limited to lockers, showers, benches, sinks, toilets, urinals, bathroom dividers, hand dryers, trash cans, mirrors, faucets and sweeping/mopping floors.
10. Vacuum when required.
11. Clean/sanitize high touch areas on a regular basis.
12. Wash and fold cleaning towels when required.
13. Check hand sanitizer and hand soap on a regular basis.
14. Keep fitness desk and back office organized, clean, sanitized and inviting.
15. Follow District’s sanitation/custodial plan.
16. Clean and sanitize any equipment or surfaces requested by Facilities and Operations Supervisor or Facilities and Operations Manager.
17. Communicate any safety, maintenance, custodial, or security issues to Superintendent of La Grange Fitness.
18. Educate participants on all protocols, policies and procedures.
19. Provide support to the Facilities and Operations Supervisor when requested.
20. Represent La Grange Fitness and the Park District of La Grange in a professional manner.
21. Attend and contribute to all mandatory staff meetings, safety trainings and workshops.
22. Maintain a positive relationship with all internal staff, co-workers and participants/members.
23. Maintain high standards and achieve high expectations for optimal fitness center operations.
24. Maintain prompt scheduled hours and follow absence/call in procedures.
25. Meets uniform standards and represents the Park District of La Grange and
La Grange Fitness in a professional, courteous and enthusiastic manner.
26. Must be able to work at various times.
27. Performs additional duties and tasks as assigned.
Customer Service
1. Treat every customer and staff with courtesy, respect and friendliness.
2. Ensure the safety of all participants and the protection of Park District Property.
3. Refer customer to Superintendent of La Grange Fitness when necessary.
Marginal Functions/Responsibilities
Safety, Health and Loss Control
1. Support, promote and make recommendations regarding all safety, health and loss control policies as adopted by the Park District.
2. Be familiar with the Employee Safety Manual, as well as prevention of infection disease guidelines for health clubs or gyms issued by state, federal and local agencies.
3. Be familiar with the safe operation of all equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks.
4. Report any injury, illness or other relevant health information which impacts the employee’s ability to perform the essential functions of the job to prevent potential injury/illness.
5. Responsible for notification of injury or illness relating to a task assignment as described with the Employee Safety Manual.

Qualifications
General Job Requirements/Experience
1. Education and experience appropriate for job function.
2. Prior knowledge and understanding of fundamentals of fitness and exercise.
3. Knowledge of the Park District of La Grange and La Grange Fitness.
4. CPR/AED Certified.
5. Valid Driver’s License.
Education
1. Level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of high school diploma or GED.
Psychological Requirements
1. Must be able to respond to a customer’s needs.
2. Must be able to communicate respectfully to clients and co-workers.
Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position.
2. Must be able to work at various times.
3. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs without assistance.
4. Must be able to stand, walk, twist, bend and climb.
5. Comply with all health and safety requirements for the workplace and in delivering services to the patrons of the Park District. This may include but is not limited to following hygiene protocol, undergoing health screens as directed, wearing a mask/face covering and gloves, following social distancing protocols and any other CDC or governmental directives.

2. Must use good judgement with customers, co-workers and supervisors.
