General Description
The Science Engagement Team is a part-time outreach position created to deliver high-quality programming in off-site and afterschool settings. This position will largely support high school students in enhancing their science literacy and communication skills. Candidates will work 20-25 hours per week.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate programming that reflects best practices in the education field, including inquiry-based and project-based learning experiences.
- Engage program participants in building a conceptual understanding of science concepts.
- Actively engage with colleagues to support departmental goals and objectives.
- Supervise participants effectively in various environments, including classrooms, at the Detroit Zoo, and during field experiences.
- Promote the DZS’s mission of celebrating and saving wildlife and wild places.
- Actively participate in, and share professional development opportunities (including onsite workshops, webinars, offsite conferences, etc.).

Work is performed indoors in an office environment, at local high schools, and frequently outdoors, with exposure to all seasonal weather conditions. Work will be performed onsite and offsite as required. Frequent travel throughout SE Michigan with the possibility of regional travel.
Physical Requirements
Able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodations, visual acuity sufficient to read standard text, often on video display monitors, standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 20 lbs and sitting for extended periods.
