Outside Sales Representative – Pelham Alabama – Plumbing Division
Plumbers Wholesale is looking for a proven contributor to join our Plumbing Sales Division as an Outside Sales Representative in the Pelham Alabama area. The ideal candidate is EMERSED IN THE PELHAM CONTRACTORS MARKET AND IS an energetic team player who understands how to effectively drive results in a fast-paced and rapidly growing company. The candidate must also be able to develop relationships and identify opportunities to develop and increase sales and provide excellent customer service. Summary of Job: The Outside Plumbing Sales Representative is responsible for the effective development and management of assigned accounts, generating new business opportunities, building and maintaining strong relationships with contractors, builders, and other plumbing-related professionals, and driving sales growth for plumbing products and services within an assigned territory.
Essential Functions:
Sales and Business Development:
- Identify and develop relationships with potential customers, including contractors, plumbers, builders, and businesses in the plumbing industry.
- Promote and sell plumbing products, services, and solutions to meet customer needs.
- Develop and execute strategies to achieve sales targets and increase market share.
Account Management:
- Maintain relationships with existing customers, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
- Work with key manufacturers to improve customer connection with Plumbers Wholesale through joint sales
- Provide impeccable customer service including quotation follow-up and follow-through on customer requests
- Conduct regular follow-ups with clients to provide product updates, resolve issues, and offer solutions.
- Communicate and work with Inside Sales to maximize customer service, e.g., order and pricing accuracy, etc.
- Ensure customers fully support all Plumbers Wholesale marketing initiatives, e.g., customer events, product promotions, etc.
Technical Expertise:
- Maintain Plumbers Wholesale’s profile by actively participating in local industry and trade association functions
- Stay informed about plumbing industry trends, product innovations, and competitor offerings.
- Continually improving product and technical knowledge
- Provide product knowledge and technical guidance to customers.
- Maintain proficiency in operational procedures and computer systems
Field Work:
- Conduct site visits to assess customer needs, recommend solutions, and close sales.
- Travel within the assigned territory to meet with clients and prospects.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with the inside sales team and other departments to ensure seamless customer service and order fulfillment.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and sales events.
- Meet regularly with the Manager to review accounts and performance plan
- Communicate with the Credit Department to ensure account information is current, e.g., contacts, credit “rumors,” etc.
- Continually maintain awareness of the market, competitive, and economic conditions that may affect sales of Company products
- Conduct quarterly customer business reviews to identify sales/GP$ growth opportunities, using PHOCAS software; and for the purpose of opportunity identification within the account.
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; or three (3) years of industry related and sale experience.
- Proven experience in outside sales, preferably in plumbing, construction, or related industries.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing products and systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the designated territory.

- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in using data to drive decisions and improve sales performance.
- Relationship Building: Proficient in building and nurturing high-value client and partner relationships.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both internally and externally.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Working Requirements:
Mobility:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around construction sites, warehouses, or client locations for extended periods.
- Frequent driving to customer locations within the assigned territory.
Lifting/Carrying:
- Ability to lift/carry plumbing products/samples/promotional materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Climbing/Bending:
- The ability to climb stairs, ladders, or scaffolding as needed during site visits.
- Frequently bending, crouching, or kneeling to inspect or demonstrate plumbing products.
Environment:
- Exposure to varying weather conditions during field visits, including extreme heat, cold, or rain.
- Work in noisy, dusty, or otherwise challenging environments such as construction sites or warehouses.
Vision/Hearing:
- Visual acuity to read product specifications, site plans, and sales materials.
- Hearing ability to communicate effectively in person or over the phone in potentially noisy environments.
Manual Dexterity:
- Frequent use of hands for operating tools, equipment, or mobile devices.
- Ability to demonstrate the use of plumbing products during presentations.
Travel:
- Required travel within the region’s territory
- May require occasional travel to other company locations, supplier meetings, or industry events, which could involve driving or flying.
Extended Hours:
- Ability to work extended hours, including evenings or weekends, during peak seasons or when meeting deadlines.
