Overview
The Special Education Paraprofessional plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs within an educational setting. This position involves working closely with teachers and other staff to facilitate the academic and social development of students, particularly those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans and educational activities tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities.
- Work both individually and in small groups with students.
- Support students in their daily activities, including academic tasks, physical activity/movement breaks, and social interactions.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers regarding individual student needs and achievements.
- Help maintain a positive classroom environment by employing effective behavior management strategies.
- Collaborate with special education staff to adapt instructional materials and techniques based on IEP requirements.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills relevant to special education.
- Foster strong relationships with students, promoting their self-esteem and independence while ensuring a safe learning environment.
Skills
- Experience working in private school settings or similar educational environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques to support students effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and needs.
