Position Summary
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible to lead, manage, and provide technical direction for a small team of product development engineers within a defined technical area or an engineering support team (e.g. designers or engineering technicians). Plans, prioritizes, and determines resources to accomplish project milestones and objectives.
First-level team leader reporting into engineering management; may report to a business/product team. Interaction is primarily with other business unit engineering teams, functional departments, and engineering leadership. May interact with customers, suppliers, or contracted resources.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and schedule work assignments for the team. Monitor project schedules, timelines and deliverables using standard project management tools and engineering systems.
Act as the primary contact for the team; serve as the liaison in providing status across engineering and other internal teams. Assure that internal and customer needs are identified and addressed.
Provide technical guidance to team members and reviews the accuracy and completeness of assignments. Define individual accountability and milestones to meet project objectives. Communicates performance expectations and helps resolve problems encountered by the team. May participate or lead design reviews with internal teams or customers.
Implement and maintain consistent engineering practices, standards, and documentation procedures and reporting systems (e.g. implement Winovation; structured product development processes and gate reviews; engineering change flow down; knowledge databases). Takes appropriate steps to protect and safeguard Parker intellectual property.
Monitor and maintain budgetary controls; allocate resources and make recommendations on the acquisition and use of equipment, systems, or other capital expenditures. In an engineering support area, ensures adequate laboratory and design center operations. Manage related internal administrative activities (e.g. facilities; procurement approvals).
Compile engineering and operational and cost data and identify opportunities for process improvements to reduce cost or improve engineering productivity. Provide feedback to the team on performance to engineering cost targets.
Makes recommendations on human resources actions (e.g. staffing, training, compensation, etc.) for review with the next level manager. Communicates and implements actions to ensure Parker values and company policies are well understood and maintained (e.g. business ethics; integrity; inclusion).
May communicate with customers to identify new business opportunities, present Parker product capabilities, and clarify customers’ technical requirements.
May complete individual technical assignments on a limited basis.
Mentor or serve as a resource to share specialized knowledge with others. Maintain leadership and technical capabilities through continued education or training.
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree (BS) (or Professional Engineer (PE) certificate) in an engineering or science discipline.
Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 4-6 years of related experience. Limited prior leadership experience; may have had informal or project lead roles.
Has thorough technical knowledge applicable to the team’s engineering specialty, products, engineering applications, and tools to effectively advise and guide the team.
Effective interpersonal and formal communication and presentation skills; ability to provide coaching and maintain open communication within the team and with other business areas.
Gains experience with cost accounting, contract and subcontract terms, and operational factors that impact business decisions.
Has thorough understanding of industry and regulatory standards and compliance requirements.
Ability to guide and develop the team through effective feedback, recognition, skill assessment, and training.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for Utah. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay range: $89,363.00 - $149,022.00
