What are the responsibilities and job description for the Procurement Specialist position at Parker Interior Plantscape?
Overview: The Procurement Specialist ensures that all Parker divisions have the materials and supplies required to conduct business on a daily and contractual basis; material must be obtained in a timely fashion while securing the best price and quality for the job as indicated by work orders and contracts.
Responsibilities:
- Negotiate best pricing, especially for large orders, quantity items, and custom grown materials.
- Track inventory levels in greenhouse and stock rooms. Use material we have in stock before new when possible.
- Work on processes to improve work and paper flow between departments.
- Purchase orders and invoices need to be reconciled and processed in a timely fashion to ensure we take advantage of discounts and remain in good standing with vendors.
- Communicate with sales, operations and installation with regards to status of orders, substitutions, and specifications.
- Maintain records of items bought, costs, vendors, and inventories.
- Evaluate suppliers based on cost, quality and reliability. Maintain healthy vendor relationships as well as develop new vendor connections.
- Prebook, follow up and schedule seasonal interior and exterior plants.
- Develop purchasing strategies and identify buying trends.
- Continually look for ways to save money.
- Keep inventory levels down.
- Inspect weekly Florida truck, weekly flowers and seasonal materials.
- Some travel required.
- Additional duties as assigned
Skills:
- Excel – basic excel functions, chart.
- Communication – able to communicate in person, on phone or via text. Build relationships with growers. Work with sales and techs for job fulfillment
- Math/accounting - Able to convert between pieces and cases, reconciling of purchase orders, packing lists and invoices
- Detail oriented – follow up on outstanding work orders and purchase orders. Ordering proper quantity and colors when applicable

Qualifications:
- Demonstrates all company core values
- 3-5 years of purchasing experience
- Plant knowledge is preferred
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- Demonstrates initiative, responsibility, teamwork
- Proficient in MS Office
- Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
Physical/Environmental Elements: Physically able to work seated for extended periods of time, ability to stoop, crouch, reach, grasp, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. The employee will be subject to noise and a warehouse environment.
