SUMMARY: The Title 1 Instructional Interventionist provides and develops targeted instruction to identified Title 1 students in middle school mathematics. Analyze student work and assessments to create and execute differentiated lessons. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to deepen understanding of the Common Core standards for instruction. Develop a positive, orderly learning environment which engages students and maximizes on task behavior. Provide parent outreach opportunities. Participate in professional development and coaching to improve practice. Work closely with teachers to review best practice and differentiation support.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for by this position. Other duties may be assigned.

· Teach and review classroom lessons with small groups within the classroom.

· Co-plan and co-teach lessons with classroom teachers.

· Collaborate with members of the Learning and Teaching Department to provide parent workshops to strengthen home/school connection.

· Use assessment to accelerate mathematics learning and instruction.

· Score assessments and manage data to report on student progress and plan for intervention.

· Observe, collect data and record student progress with learning grade level standards for mathematics.

· Assist principals and teachers in analyzing student assessment data from district and state testing.

· Collaborate with members of the Learning and Teaching Department to monitor student progress and complete Title I reporting requirements.

· Provide enrichment opportunities to students through the use of games, songs and technology.

· Use a variety of teaching strategies.

· 1Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public.

· Attend district designated trainings/meetings.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Exercises no supervision.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

· Requires the ability to plan sound lessons, based on effective instructional practices and utilizing differentiated approaches

· Requires the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce and/or assess data and/or information using established criteria.

· Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.

· Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive and advisory data and information.

· Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of special needs equipment and devices, and standard office equipment.

· Requires ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Involves routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices, with some latitude for independent judgment.

· Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

· Strong understanding of summative and formative assessments as well as differentiated instruction

· Strong communication, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, punctuality, and dependability

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

· Education degree and Massachusetts educator license

· Solid content knowledge

· Prior classroom teaching experience and/or prior experience providing small group academic interventions preferred

· Understanding of appropriate behavior management techniques.

· Familiarity with various technologies appropriate for mathematics instruction.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Massachusetts educator license

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about to provide services and may be required to occasionally traverse throughout the school building. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will have essential duties requiring him/her to work in a classroom with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, bend or twist at the neck and trunk. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). The employee must be able to input

information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents and other staff members and occasionally must meet multiple demands from several people. While the majority of the work day is spent inside, the employee must spend time outdoors for recess, fire drills, and special activities.
