General Statement of Duties
This non-exempt position is responsible for maintaining the District’s building facilities and grounds by performing a variety of skilled and unskilled manual labor tasks and operating lightto-heavy motorized equipment.
Supervision Received
Works under the direct supervision of the District Services Supervisor and under the general direction of the Maintenance Superintendent.
Summary Description
Under immediate supervision (District Services Technician I) or general supervision (District Services Technician II) performs a variety of skilled and unskilled maintenance and repair work.
District Services Technician l
This is the entry level class in the District Services Technician series. This class is distinguished from the District Services Technician II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within this series. Employees at this level are not expected to perform with the same independence of direction and judgment on matters related to procedures and guidelines as are positions allocated to the II level. Employees work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.
District Services Technician II
This class is distinguished from the District Services Technician l by the assignment of the full range of duties assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and they are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks related to facility and grounds maintenance including but not limited to:
-
Painting, light carpentry or plumbing
-
Lock repair and maintenance
-
Irrigation repair and maintenance
-
Special landscape projects
-
Fence repair
-
Herbicide application to control noxious weeds
-
Operates light-to-heavy equipment, for example mowers, tractors, snow plows, skid-steers, man-lifts, backhoes, forklifts and trailers, to complete such tasks as:
-
Snow removal from District parking lots, roadways, and walkways
-
Road grading
-
Dirt removal for landscaping projects
-
Loading and unloading trucks
-
Moving equipment throughout the district
-
Assists with minor vehicle maintenance repairs.

Handles set-up of meeting rooms for various functions.
-
Performs routine and non-routine inspections of facilities; for example, fire extinguisher, eye wash station, safety cabinet and automated external defibrillator (AED) inspections.

Attends technical and safety training meetings, courses and seminars as required.
-
Performs routine physical cleanup and housekeeping of work areas, equipment, and buildings using standard cleaning equipment and material.

Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices and procedures.
-
Knowledge of the operation and repair of light-to-heavy motorized equipment.
-
Knowledge of basic / light maintenance of fleet vehicles.
-
Basic knowledge of safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment and the ability to apply safety principles on all job tasks. Ability to anticipate unsafe circumstances, act accordingly to prevent accidents, and promptly report accidents and hazardous conditions.

Basic computer knowledge including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Ability to make solid and responsible decisions using independent judgment and personal initiative. Ability to prioritize, plan and schedule work to meet deadlines.

Ability to work independently with broad direction and limited supervision. Ability to work professionally with supervisors and co-workers, and deal tactfully with the public.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Ability to follow verbal directions and written policies and procedures accurately and completely.

Ability to operate hand and power tools and light-to-heavy motorized equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Qualifications/Experience
-
District Services Technician I – Zero to five years’ experience in grounds and general facilities maintenance; and operation and maintenance of fleet vehicles and light-to-heavy motorized equipment. Must have, or obtain within one year of hire, a valid Colorado Class A CDL and airbrake restriction removed.

District Services Technician II – Minimum six years’ experience in grounds and general facilities maintenance; and operation and maintenance of fleet vehicles and light-to-heavy motorized equipment. Must be qualified on all District Services equipment within two months of hire. Must have a valid Colorado Class A CDL with airbrake restriction removed within two months of hire.

Must have a Motor Vehicle Record within the Acceptable or no less than Borderline rating according to the Vehicle Policy.

Additional education, licensing or training may be required depending upon current level of experience.
Working Conditions\Physical Activities
-
Monday through Friday, 40 hours per work week.
-
May be subject to mandatory overtime on an as needed basis to work within the department and for other duties as assigned.
-
Performs strenuous physical labor and stands for extended periods of time.
-
May work in a wastewater plant or agricultural environment where elevated levels of noise, irritants, dust, dirt, bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air/materials and fumes are always present. May come into contact with raw wastewater. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended and is offered at no cost by the District.

Work may take place outside in all weather conditions. May be exposed to risks typically associated with working around water, chemicals, electricity and other man-made and natural hazards.

Lifting and handling objects up to 75 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently.
-
Full range of body movements including stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, leaning, reaching, climbing (heights), stretching and working in awkward positions.
-
Must be able to operate vehicles and equipment, read, record and interpret information. Must be able to communicate with other employees, vendors and the public.
Compensation & Benefits Overview
The hiring range for this position will be dependent upon experience and CDL license. The range for each level is listed below.
Tech I: $24.81- $29.18 per hour
Tech II: $29.30 - $34.47 per hour
