Substitute Teacher

OVERVIEW

Parkhurst Academy is a private Christian school offering education from kindergarten through post-secondary levels. We are currently looking for Substitute Teachers who will step in when needed to ensure continuity in instruction, maintain classroom discipline, and foster an environment where students can grow academically and spiritually. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as substitutes may be called upon on short notice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher, ensuring alignment with the school’s curriculum.
• Maintain classroom management and discipline, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
• Clearly communicate lesson objectives to students and assess their understanding.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and staff.
• Keep classroom organized and maintain a conducive learning environment.
• Follow school policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
  

REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 18 years or older
• Must possess a Highschool Diploma or GED
• Flexibility to work on an as-needed basis with potential for short-notice requests.
• Must be able to pass a background check.

• Familiarity with educational technology is a plus.
  

SCHEDULE

• As-needed basis, covering for teachers during absences.
• Availability during school hours (Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.).
• Flexibility to work on short notice is preferred.
  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position involves light work, requiring up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull objects. Additional physical abilities include:

• Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects by touch.
• Dexterity: Primarily with fingers, for tasks like typing.
• Grasping: Applying pressure with the whole hand.
• Hearing: Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels, with or without correction.
• Lifting: Ability to lift and move objects.
• Mental Acuity: Making rational decisions.
• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Speaking/Talking: Clear and concise communication through speech.
• Stooping: Bending body downward and forward, requiring full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
• Visual Acuity: Performing tasks like preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and reading extensively.
• Walking: Moving on foot for long distances or between work sites.
