What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer position at ParkPoint Controls, LLC?
This is a level 1 position in the field of controls engineering. The role of the Controls Engineer is to design, program and install control systems for a variety of systems including Conveyor, Life Safety and Manufacturing. The duties include electrical design, both control panel and system, PLC and HMI design and programming, field work including hardware installation, wire terminations, system commissioning, testing and documentation.
Essential Job Functions
- PLC programming using Rockwell PLC software, and occasionally Siemens S7. The PLC programming is to be written in ladder logic and when necessary structured text or function block.
- Design controls hardware infrastructures using Ethernet/IP and occasionally Profibus/Profinet.
- Set-up field devices, i.e. motion control devices (VFD’s, servo’s, etc.), barcode scanners, image readers and gas detectors.
- HMI design and development using Factory Talk View Studio, Wonderware, Crimson3 or Ignition.
- Design of control panels, creating panel layout drawings for quoting and/or constructing purposes.
- Creation of wiring schematics using AutoCAD and/or NanoCAD.
- Assist Project Manager with overall project schedule and strictly adhere to all milestone dates.
- Write the Controls Description of Operation for projects.
- Participate in all site activities related to implementing the PLC program(s) including installation support, commissioning, testing, and stand by support.
- Work with electrical installation subcontractors in the procurement process for implementing pipe and wire installation.
- Handle support calls during project implementation.
- Ability to communicate well with external customers and suppliers.
Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities
- Qualified candidates for this position will have a 2 or 4 year degree in a controls related field.
- 2 years of relevant experience in the controls industry.
- Experience with Rockwell PLCs.
- Recognize and analyze problem areas with equipment and provide logical and concise solutions.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test
