Job Summary And Qualifications

The Surgical Technologist Extern delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services to support the efficient operation of the surgical suite. Under the supervision of the Circulating RN, the Surgical Technologist Externassiststhe surgical staff in the perioperative processin accordance withthe Surgical Technologist Extern’s skills/training and the needs of theDepartment, andconsistentlyassiststhe patient care team withmaintaininga clean, well-organized, and safe patient care environment. The Surgical Technologist Extern is currently enrolled and in good standing in an approved school of surgical technology and can perform higher-level procedures once competency is achieved.

What you will do in this role:

• Collaborate with the Circulating RN and Surgical Tech to organize the operating suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the day.
• Review daily cases to ensure adequate stocking. Ensure proper functioning of equipment/instruments prior to procedures. 
• Assistin creating andmaintainingan orderly sterile instrument table. Utilizes physician preference cards for efficient setup. 
• Assist in preparing for emergency and add on cases rapidly and effectively. 
• Assist with providing care and comfort for the patient throughout the perioperative process.
• Transport patients to and from surgical suite as needed. 
• Aid in the transfer, positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures in accordance with hospital standards. 
  
  

What qualifications you will need:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be currently enrolled in a Surgical Technologist certification/degree program with only 6-8 months left to program completion.
• Must be able to work 24 hours per month minimum. 
  
  

Parkridge Medical Center is a 270 bed hospital. We are near downtown Chattanooga. We feature comprehensive diagnostic, medical, and surgical services. These services include cardiovascular surgery and cancer treatment. These services include intensive care, orthopedic and spine surgery, and rehabilitation. The facility includes a state-of-the-art neurosurgery program. Patients also have access to OB-GYN services. Patients have access to a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They also have access to (NICU) and behavioral health treatment centers for children and adults.
