TPWD MISSION

To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Park Superintendent and the Lead Ranger, this position performs entry-level building maintenance and construction work including assisting in the operation and maintenance of Copper Breaks State Park. Duties include, but are not limited to, preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) and repairs to facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. Operates various types of equipment to include mowers, trimmers, pole saws, chainsaws, power tools, tractors, shredders, vehicles and other equipment as needed. Provides quality costumer services by issuing permits, performs general visitor assistance including reservation/registration, revenue collection and special events. Assists with agency and park programs to include resource management, and interpretation. Prepares and submits required reports. Provides visitor information concerning park rules and regulations. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

Education:

Completion of 8th grade.

Experience:

One year of experience in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance.

Licensure:

Applicant must possess a valid State driver’s license at the time of hire.

NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintain required license.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

Experience working with the public.

Experience in cleaning public facilities.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of general maintenance techniques;

Knowledge of general custodial duties;

Knowledge of landscaping and maintenance techniques;

Knowledge of basic mathematics;

Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook;

Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Skill in using a personal computer;

Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

Skill in the use of hand and power tools, riding mowers, push mowers, trimmers, pole saws, chain saws, tractors, shredders, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment;

Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions;

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts;

Skill in cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms using chemicals in accordance with directions on labels;

Ability to work independently with little or no supervision;

Ability to safely operate mowers and weed eaters;

Ability to accurately follow instructions;

Ability to work effectively as a team member in a fast-paced environment;

Ability to follow park rules and regulations;

Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected;

Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays;

Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures;

Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

May be required to operate a State vehicle;

Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

Required to adjust to changing schedules;

Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
