Duties Description:
Under the supervision of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will primarily assist the regional painter. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Painting and/or staining interior and exteriors of buildings throughout the region while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
- Climbing ladders and heavy lifting.
- Assisting the sign shop in making signs for the region.
- Assist other tradespeople such as electricians, plumbers, and carpenters in a semi-skilled manner.
- Work both independently with minimal direct supervision as well as in a team setting supervising seasonal staff as necessary, assisting with seasonal staff scheduling.
- Operate equipment such as bucket truck, aerial lift, septic truck, dump truck and front end loaders.
- Cut trees and brush as well as assist with the Risk Tree management operations in the region.
- The incumbent will also be deployed to perform work during emergency events as directed by the State Emergency Management Operations Center and/or NYSOPRHP management.
Minimum Qualifications: One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreation facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate's or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours or college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years’ experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
Operational Needs:
- Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess or obtain a NYS CDL Class “B” driver’s license with tanker endorsement within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
- Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete Game of Logging 1, 2 and 3 during the next training session.
- Must possess or obtain an Environmental Protection Agency Renovation, Repair and Painting (EPA RRP) license within the probationary period for remediation/repair and painting of lead contaminated surfaces.
- Must be able to follow written direction as well as accurately record and document required information.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with park administration and other staff members.
- Must possess good organizational skills, accuracy, and the ability to multi-task.
- Must have basic computer skills including use of the internet and Microsoft 365 Office programs including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
