Position Summary
Lead, plan, oversee and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for testing, maintaining, repairing and installing a variety of irrigation systems, backflow prevention devices and equipment on City properties; diagnoses and troubleshoot problems with field units within the irrigation system including controllers, valves and related systems; provide training and functional guidance to irrigation personnel on the calibration, maintenance and repair of the City's irrigation systems; perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED supplemented by thirty (30) credit hours vocational training in construction, landscaping, or irrigation; and
Four (4) years of irrigation system maintenance experience.
Lead experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Driver's License.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a New Mexico Irrigation Certificate (JS-6).
Possession of a New Mexico Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester/Repair Certificate.

- Motorola Irrinet and a variety of other irrigation systems
- Irrigation radio/computer communications systems
- Principles and practices of landscape irrigation conservation techniques and their practical application to new and existing landscaping
- Testing, operation and installation requirements of backflow prevention devices
- Pertinent local, State and Federal rules, regulations, laws and reporting requirements
- Principles of lead supervision and training
- Methods and techniques of diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining irrigation systems equipment and field repair
- Methods and techniques of irrigation systems management
- Complex irrigations systems including computerized central control systems, electric valves and computerized electromechanical and digital controllers
- Methods and techniques of installing soil moisture sensors
- Principles and practices of inventory control
- Operational characteristics of specialized maintenance equipment and tools related to duties of work assigned
- Principles and practices of irrigation systems and designs including computerized central control systems, equipment and applicable software
- Read and interpret blueprint drawing and specifications
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations

- Perform skilled work in testing, diagnoses, maintenance, repair and installation of backflow prevention devices and the City irrigation systems
- Operate and use modern office equipment, computers and laptops for field activities
- Read, interpret and apply information from blueprints or drawing related to irrigation systems installation, maintenance and repair
- Maintain accurate records
- Prepare clear and concise reports in a timely manner
- Plan, lead, organize and review the work of staff in the area of work assigned
- Train lower level irrigation and maintenance staff
- Independently perform the most difficult irrigation system installation, maintenance and repair work
