Job Summary/Overview

The Landscape Foreman assists the Landscape Assistant Superintendent in maintaining the grounds of the property. The Landscape Foreman has the responsibility to oversee and supervise the Landscaping Crews including hands on duties as needed. This position insures that company quality work practices and standards are up held in all Landscape work in the residential grounds areas. The Landscape Foreman assigns daily work areas and responsibilities to each crew, checks on their progress and quality throughout the day and counsels the Crews on the results. The Landscape Foreman is the first line of Management who has daily contact with the residents and professional conduct is extremely important.

The Landscape Foreman is a highly visible position that has daily contacts with residents and employees and requires the utmost awareness of how actions and communications are received and perceived; customer service, respect and diplomacy are stressed at all times. The appearance, actions and words of this person will determine how the resident views the rest of the company. This position will conduct themselves at all times, in a professional manner, as a representative of Parkway Maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assumes the duties of the Landscape Assistant Superintendent when he is not on site.
  • Supervising all members of the Landscape Crew and assigning duties.
  • Checking progress and results of each crew throughout the day and counseling crews as needed
  • Organizing and planning jobs.
  • Supervising and staffing landscape projects such as shrubbery removal, thinning out or removing plantings behind or beside buildings.
  • Determining the safest procedure to use in specific instances.
  • Cross training various crews or skill sets.
  • Instructing crews on operator maintenance for equipment.
  • Ensuring all equipment is maintained properly.
  • Ensuring crews strictly adhere to all safety procedures and using the proper personal protection equipment.
  • Writing work orders for any deficiencies or problems observed around the property.
  • Attending all safety meetings.
  • Aiding with other positions in the department and the enlisting cross training as needed.
  • Helping in emergency situations in whatever duties as needed.
  • Performing other tasks as needed when requested by superintendents or managers.
  • Keeping vehicle clean, serviced and maintained.

In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include such other responsibilities and duties as assigned from time to time, based upon OTOW Inc. needs or requirements.

Working conditions

The working conditions described are typical of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. This position is regularly exposed to outdoor conditions and the majority of work is performed outdoors. Exposure to high temperatures (95 degrees and above), low temperatures (35 degrees and below) and a variety of weather conditions is common. The typical noise level is moderate to high.

Physical requirements

Physical demands are those of a property management site environment. While performing the duties of this job, the individual will be required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell. The Landscape Foreman will regularly be required to stand, walk, use tools, and to lift up to fifty pounds. This position will frequently be required to sit use hands to finger, handle, or feel, taste or smell. Vision requirements are close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Organizational Relationships

Reports to: Landscape Assistant Superintendent and works closely with all other members of Parkway Maintenance and Management departments.

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

Education & Training

  • High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of internal experience with Parkway Landscaping Department.
  • Minimum six (6) months of lead or supervisory experience preferred (additional On-Job-Training provided)
  • Completion of the following internal training:
    • Certified in Light Trailer Operations
  • Experience with commercial/residential grounds keeping techniques
  • Experience with and knowledge of landscaping techniques and equipment
  • Experience with various landscaping equipment
  • Completion of internal training as assigned by manager or Human Resources

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of safety practices
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to plan and implement assignments and projects
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Critical analysis skills
  • Strong supervisory and organizational skills

Certifications or Licenses

  • Valid Florida driver license (or ability to obtain within 30 days), with acceptable driving history preferred.
  • Certified in light trailer operation,
  • Within 6 months agree to successfully complete the following training
    • Aerial Lifts
    • Specialized Spray Equipment
    • Heavy Trailer Operation
  • Must be certified in Heavy trailer operation (GEHL, CASE)
