What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Library Clerk position at Parma Public Library?
Library Environment: A friendly staff of thirteen who strive for innovation serving the Village of Hilton and Town of Parma. Staff works in a conjoined front desk and office space with lots of collaboration.
Qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma.
Duties:
- Performs circulation desk duties, such as checking in and out library items, using an automated system.
- Communicates information to patrons in person and over the phone.
- Provides basic reference to patrons, including basic technology questions.
- Uses office equipment such as computers, cash register and copier.
- Other library duties as assigned.
Desired Skills:
· A genuine liking and desire to work with library users of all ages.
· Ability to communicate pleasantly and professionally with the public and library staff verbally and in writing.
· Excellent customer service skills and ability to multi-task.
· Well-organized and efficient with the ability to perform accurate, detailed work.
· Basic knowledge of smart devices and email.
· Ability to adjust to changing procedures and new technology.
· Physical ability for the demands of the job, including, but not limited to, standing, kneeling, reaching and shared lifting of totes weighing up to 50 pounds.
Hours: This position will fill gaps in the schedule where other staff members are unavailable for their regularly scheduled hours. Hours will vary and require flexibility in the applicant's schedule, with morning, afternoon and evening availability preferred. Currently, urgent coverage is needed for Monday evenings from 4-8pm until at least May. Substitute clerks will be guaranteed a minimum of 12 hours per month.
