Support the Park HSE Director with the development, implementation and maintenance of the park Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management system to meet the requirements of applicable Parques Reunidos HSE standards and federal, state, and local requirements.

We Are Currently Looking For a

Wet 'n Wild - HSE Intern - Seasonal

Roles & Responsibilities

Supervisory Duties:

  • Assist with the daily supervision of the HSE team and any other assigned departments
  • Lead by example, attitude, and as a representation of Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe core values
  • Act as an approachable mentor and coach to all assigned team members
  • Become knowledgeable of performing the essential duties of all HSE positions and backfill these positions when needed
  • Participate in new-hire orientation and training activities for all assigned employees
  • Ensure that all required meals and other breaks are being given in accordance with North Carolina law
  • Ensure daily sign-in sheets are completed and submitted each day
  • Assist with team scheduling and timekeeping activities

Departmental Duties

  • Support HSE leadership with incorporating Palace HSE standards and local HSE requirements into park procedures and training
  • Assist with conducting ongoing risk assessments within the HSE scope
  • Actively participate in self-audits and inspections to verify compliance
  • Assist in the development and execution of park-wide safety, first aid, and sustainability processes and procedures
  • Assist HSE Director in coordinating park-wide security initiatives and drills
  • Assist with departmental data entry, filing, and administrative tasks
  • Assist with the planning and execution of emergency response procedures
  • Work alongside HSE leadership as they investigate HSE related incidents related to both guests and employees to determine causes, prepare incident reports, and perform trend analysis
  • Monitor and confirm completion of follow-up actions for HSE findings, audits, inspections, and incident investigations
  • Maintain First Aid, Injury & HSE files and ensuring accurate documentation while always upholding confidentiality of this sensitive information
  • Participate in accident investigations of guest and employee incidents, as needed
  • Actively assist other internal departments and external services during emergencies
  • Assist HSE leadership with ensuring equipment, including maintenance equipment, amusement devices, attractions, and devices meet applicable industry standards
  • Coordinate the timely and accurate completion of recurring HSE reports
  • All other duties assigned by leadership

Education And Experience

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled (or recent graduate) in a Bachelor’s Degree of Health & Safety, Emergency Management, Engineering, Sustainability, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline is required
  • 1 year of previous safety or environmental experience highly desired
  • Previous hospitality, amusement park, theme park, or waterpark experience preferred

Language: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with North Carolina Child Labor Laws
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from your scheduled shift
  • Ability to comprehend and carry out verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive park and guest information
  • Ability to understand and apply knowledge of HSE policies and procedures, interviewing, listening, and note-taking techniques for specific situations
  • Ability to deal fairly, objectively, and courteously with the public without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, or political beliefs
  • Ability to professionally and calmly deal with stressful and/or tense situations
  • Must possess exceptional customer service skills, with an ability to resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns in a positive and professional manner
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members, external first responders, and emergency personnel during emergency situations
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for majority of the workday
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above shoulders
  • Ability to remain sedentary for extended periods of time, while using a computer/camera equipment
  • Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more

Working Conditions

  • This role will be based in both an office setting as well as frequent exposure to all other indoor and outdoor park environments
  • Frequent exposure to the variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, and other weather conditions
  • Exposure to a variety of stressful emergency situations involving people or property
  • Subject to constant repetitive motion, high noise levels, flashing lights, and heavily populated environments
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and requests that may require reprioritization of activities
