Accounting Associate
OVERVIEW: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Associate to join our team at a busy personal injury law firm. This role plays a critical function in supporting the financial operations of the firm, particularly in the accurate and timely processing of disbursements to clients. The ideal candidate is organized, efficient, and comfortable working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable (A/P):
- Process all vendor invoices and expense reports
- Ensure proper coding and timely payments
- Maintain accurate A/P records and documentation
- Account Reconciliations:
- Reconcile bank accounts, trust ledgers, and firm operating accounts regularly
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Settlement Disbursements:
- Issue and process final settlement disbursement checks to clients
- Prepare and manage associated correspondence and documentation
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with trust accounting rules
- Reporting & Support:
- Assist the Accounting Manager and Disbursement Coordinator with audits, reporting, and special projects
- Maintain up-to-date financial records for case closings
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role (law firm experience is a plus)
- Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel is required
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and integrity
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of legal trust accounting or interest in learning
