The Role
As an Engineering Technician Intern, you’ll be working on supporting the PMS R&D department during the development and sustaining efforts for highly technical products as part of a team of dedicated engineers, scientists, and technicians from multiple disciplines. With oversight and guidance from your manager and assigned mentor, you’ll be responsible for supporting current projects and implementing engineering suggestions on product enhancement and new product development. As a member of a cross-functional team, you will be a key contributor to engineering solutions for air and liquid particle counting systems.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Location – This is an “in-office” position with Covid precautions being taken. The location of this position is in Boulder, CO. This is a 40-hour-per-week full-time position for the 2025 summer (3 months). Local candidates only
Pay Range
$25.00 per hour depending on experience

Particle Measuring Systems determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for the Boulder, Colorado area. We will evaluate external equity, which is the relative marketplace job worth of jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we to make competitive offers between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. This allows the new employee room for future merit increases during review cycles. There may be times when we will offer above the midpoint. The decision to do so will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and the compensation rates of the employees within the company doing the same position.

Specific Job Responsibilities
- Supporting new product development and sustaining engineering activities.
- Perform technician support including prototype assembly, sub-assembly, and unit assembly tests/calibrations, and troubleshooting and repair with support from your functional manager, assigned mentor, and peers.
- Work from and provide input into test procedures, schematics, or other related documentation to assure product quality.
- Assist engineers in creating solutions for gas and liquid handling systems.
- Perform assembly of cables and cable harness assemblies.
- Perform other technician duties as required.
- Currently pursuing an Associate or Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Opto-Mechanical Engineering.
- hands-on technician experience. Personal, professional, or coursework experience is acceptable.
- Analytical skills with coursework in troubleshooting, electrical design, and basic mechanical engineering principles.
- Strong knowledge of analog and digital electronics circuitry including transistors, op-amps, logic devices, microprocessors, and memory chips. Ability to read, understand, and explain schematic diagrams.
- Proficient in the use of electronic test equipment such as digital multi-meters, function generators, power supplies, and oscilloscopes.

- Self-directed and able to collaborate as part of a cross-functional team.
- Excellent technical problem-solving skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Computer proficiency and ability to use Windows and standard office software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Two-year associate’s degree (EET) or higher, equivalent military training.
- Opto-Mechanical coursework experience is a strong plus.
