This position is for U if you are a highly proactive, detail-oriented, organized person with a strong understandiing of mortgage products and regulations and are able to work at our Directors Row location, Fort Wayne, IN, full-time, 40hrs/wk, with a schedule of:
Mon-Fri: 8am-5pm
There can be some flexibility with the schedule, as far as daily schedule, if needed.
Role
This Mortgage Loan Officer Assistant role will primarily assist our Mortgage Loan Originator(s) (MLO) with incoming 1st mortgage applications. The Mortgage Loan Officer Assistant will be primarily based in-office while the MLO is in the community meeting with prospective and existing referral partners. The assistant will be available to review new applications timely and analyze credit history, income, assets, and overall loan opportunities. When the MLO(s) is unavailable, the assistant will be the primary contact for the 1st mortgage applications. While the Mortgage Loan Officer Assistant will contribute to the overall mortgage sales goal for the credit union, they are not held accountable to an individual sales goal. Due to the nature of the role, there is no commission.
Major Duties and Responsibilities

- Assists and supports Mortgage Loan Originator(s) (MLO) with incoming applications, taking direction day-to-day from MLO(s) on potential borrowers and loan files that need attention. Assist the MLO(s) with incoming inquires and various needs to ensure they are able to spend time out of the office attracting new business.
- When necessary, provide potential borrowers with interest rate quotes and closing cost quotes. Also provide members with basic loan program information.
- Contact borrowers to request supporting documents requested by Mortgage Loan Originator(s), following up regularly until all items are received.
- When necessary, assist members with the completion of new loan applications and handle as the MLO assigned to that loan. Responsibilities in taking a new loan application are not limited to; coordinate the collection of documentation, including credit reports, run automated underwriting, request supporting documents from members, and prepare the file for processing.
- Assists the origination team in preparing marketing materials for referral partners. This may involve putting together gift baskets and raffle prizes, coming up with ideas for promotional materials and thank you gifts, planning events, and additional support.
- Stay informed on changes in the industry and the local real estate market(s) in which the CU lends.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Knowledge and Skills
Experience
A minimum of 3 years of experience in roles such as Loan Processor, Document Specialist, Closing Specialist, Jr. Underwriter, etc. Loan Origination experience a plus. Minimum 2 years of outbound calling with a track record of successfully securing the contract for new loans. Experience as well as being comfortable with calling potential and past clients to sell new mortgage programs. Must have current working knowledge of mortgage loan products (primarily Conventional) and knowledge of mortgage procedures, processes, and documentation. Working knowledge of Secondary Market and their automated underwriting systems such as LPA.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
Incumbents are required to maintain their registration active, and current, with the National Mortgage Licensing System throughout their employment. Current NMLS licenses or must be willing to get it within 90 days.
Interpersonal Skills
Excellent time management, interpersonal, communication, and follow-up skills. A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance.
Other Skills
The ability to analyze credit reports, income, and asset documents, as well as an understanding of general ways to structure a loan.

Physical Requirements
Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including CRTs, typewriters, telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions
Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
