ALCOHOL AND DRUG COUNSELOR (LADC)

Pay Grade:


$60,000 - $71,000 annually


JOB SUMMARY:

We are looking for a LADC to deliver programming to clients in the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River. The Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) plays a key role in the delivery of treatment services to the clients and is responsible for ensuring that all clients receive services as mandated by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS). They provide services to support the achievement of effective personal development working with clients individually and in group settings to identify and resolve issues including substance use, mental health, personal and/or emotional and family issues. This is a hybrid role; 50% will be in person at Sherburne County Jail facilitating groups, 50% will be facilitating individual sessions remotely. This position will be responsible for delivering up to 15 hours of group and carrying up to a 16-client caseload.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) is responsible for providing education, counseling, and treatment to clients within the Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient programs according to the requirements mandated by the MN Department of Human Services (DHS) and 245G. They are expected to deliver and properly document the provision of treatment services including the Initial Service Plan, Comprehensive Assessment, Individual Treatment Plan, Progress Notes, Summary at Termination of Services, Continuing Care Plan, and the maintenance of client records.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Under direction of the Treatment Director and Program Manager, deliver services meeting licensure requirements and individual client needs.
  • Upon service initiation, ensure that each client has an initial service plan which addresses the client’s immediate health, safety, and preliminary service needs.
  • Complete a comprehensive assessment and an assessment summary of the client's substance use problems utilizing the ASAM Six Dimensions prior to service initiation.
  • Generate an Individual Treatment Plan after completion of the comprehensive assessment which is subject to amendment until services to the client are terminated. The Individual Treatment Plan must include treatment goals, objectives and interventions used to address identified problems, resources to which the client is being referred, and client goals.
  • Accurate and timely documentation of client treatment notes, referencing the individual treatment plan for assigned caseload, to include assessment of substance use and mental health issues.
  • Provide individual and group counseling, client education strategies to prevent inappropriate substance use and health problems related to substance use, transition services, and services to address issues related to co-occurring mental illness.
  • Facilitate and lead psycho-educational and therapeutic process groups, addressing substance use disorder and mental health issues as an integral part of the recovery process.
  • Participate in the weekly treatment team meetings to review and update client progress notes.
  • Initiate and maintain ongoing communication with client referral, probation, and social service agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Independent worker and self-starter.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, respectfully and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Prepared screening for and working with clients with mental health problems, through education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of implications of 245G.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Understanding of industry-specific policies, such as the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations for health care.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all company processes as it pertains to the 12 Core Functions.
  • Competence in facilitating individual and group counseling including crisis intervention.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 18 years of age.
  • Must be a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with alcohol and/or drug addicted individuals and/or in the field of substance abuse counseling.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing Outpatient Treatment and/or Intensive Outpatient services.
  • Must have or obtain 12 hours of training in co-occurring mental health problems or training within 6 months of hire.
  • 5 years of compliance with MN Statutes 604.20, 604.205 sexual exploitation.
  • Successfully complete MN Department of Human Services background study.
  • Successfully complete a MN Corrections background study.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in related field.
  • Experience with Procentive.
  • Additional Licenses: LPC, LPCC, LICSW, LP.

CONTINUED EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Complete continuing education courses in current treatment concepts and methods as required by the State of Minnesota to maintain active LADC licensure status.
  • Attend in-house training and staff meetings.
