College and Career Coach, Letcher Promise Neighborhood

Position Summary 

The College & Career Coach (CCC) is a full-time, key role for the Letcher Promise Neighborhood grant. The CCC will work to ensure that all high school students are successfully prepared for postsecondary options. The CCC will collaborate with the project director, PRI staff, school personnel, and members to create personalized career plans for every student and coordinate other supports to meet their postsecondary readiness goals. The position leads and operates with the goal that All Rural Students Succeed.   

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

•  Work both in-person and virtually with students in small groups and at the cohort level to teach skills, engage in reflective conversations, career navigation, and coordinate support to ensure students are prepared for postsecondary success.   

• Create a personal development plan for each student to increase the skills and competencies needed for postsecondary readiness and success 

• Maintain systems that demonstrate students’ individual goals, progress, and needs.  

• Provide and coordinate academic support for students.  

• Monitor, mentor, and support members and volunteers.  

• Participate in school level partnership council meetings.  

• Assist high school students with the completion of FAFSA, scholarship applications, and college applications.  

• Continually assess the needs of students, families, and school and evaluate the impact of services provided.  

• Maintain a professional relationship with students, families, and teachers, operating in an ethical manner at all times 

• Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist and support in the attainment of our mission, All Rural Students Succeed.    

Position Location & Schedule 

The position will be based at Letcher County Central High School in Whitesburg, KY with local, state, and sometimes national travel required.  

Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET with in-office, hybrid and/or remote work a possibility. Because of the nature of the responsibility to schools, partners, funders, and to the service region, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening and/or weekend hours. 

Minimum Qualifications 

Education required to ensure success in this position: 

• A Bachelor’s degree is required; Concentration in education or related field is preferred   

Experience required to ensure success in this position: 

• Experience in college and/or career access and understanding of skills needed to be college and career ready 

• Community engagement experience  

• Skills and knowledge of coordinating a multi-faceted program  

• Evidence of effectively coordinating with rural schools and rural communities  

• Understanding of first-generation, low-income youth

• Superior interpersonal and organizational skills 

• Collaborative and collegial leadership style

License, certification, or registration necessary: 

• Valid driver’s license 
• Successfully complete pre-employment background check 

Physical requirements: 

• Ability to work in a high energy office 

• Ability to accurately communicate and exchange information with partners, stakeholders, and/or meeting participants 

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs 

• Ability to travel independently by car and plane regionally and nationally 

• Ability to operate standard office equipment 

• Ability to operate motor vehicle

• Work in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
