The Anderson School, our oldest program, located in Andover, MA, is looking for a full-time, dedicated and caring Teaching Assistant. The school's program supports students ages 3-12 with multiple disabilities, moderate to severe developmental delays, and complex medical needs. The school is open Monday-Friday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm and follows a school calendar, including holidays and closing periods.
The Job
The Teaching Assistant is an entry level position that works closely with the Special Education Teacher in a classroom of approximately 5 students who have multiple disabilities, moderate to severe developmental delays, and complex medical needs. Responsibilities include assisting our special education teachers and school therapists with implementation of IEP goals and objectives, as well as helping with classroom activities and maintaining a clean and neat classroom environment. This position will support the physical and minimal health needs of our students which may include lifting, positioning, seating, feeding, toileting/diapering, and mobility.
Creativity, flexibility, and ability to multitask are key skills for this role. Candidates should be comfortable working in a team environment with the ability to both take initiative and direction as needed.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. Training or coursework in special education is desired.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in working with students ages 3 to 12 in a special education classroom setting.
- Experience with young children with significant special needs preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Suitable background check including fingerprinting.
- Hold/willing to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications
- Mostly active - must be able to sit, bend, kneel and lift 25 lbs.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Program Director and Executive Director may find appropriate and acceptable.
