Primary Purpose:

Assist the teaching team with preparing and implementing the Tūtū and Me curriculum and program.

Essential Duties:

  • Work as part of a team to create and prepare learning materials for keiki and caregivers enrolled in the program;
  • Participate in the lesson planning process with the teaching team;
  • Model, teach, and play with enrolled families in a professional manner that encourages caregivers to be their keikiʻs first and foremost teacher;
  • Assist the teaching team with unbiased observations of keiki and caregivers that support developmental growth and progress while in the program;
  • Track and record participant attendance at site and enter it in the database;
  • Contribute towards supportive professional relationships with families and colleagues;
  • Help maintain proper safety guidelines and expectations at the office and program sites.

Other Duties:

Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to, completing all forms and documentation such as reports related to grant objectives, professional development evaluations, and data collection for the program.

Work Hours:

  • 10-month work schedule that aligns with Hawai'i's Department of Education's paid leave calendar;
  • Monday through Friday, hours of operation varied by site and determined by the Site Manager;
  • Consistent and reliable attendance;
  • Some events and professional development may take place on evenings or weekends.

Working Conditions:

  • Office setting and program sites;
  • Travel in program vehicle to and from program sites event;
  • Travel to the neighbor islands is required;
  • Travel to the U.S. continent may be required.

Equipment Use:

Program vehicle, office equipment (computer, video and camera, printer, copier, scanner, bluetooth speaker system, microphone and headphones, cell phone, laminator, shredder), site and facility equipment.

PHYSICAL:

  • Capable of strenuous activities which include loading/unloading of program materials and equipment from the van, washing of vans and mats, set up and break down of program activity centers;
  • Requires lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds on a regular basis;
  • Must be able to sit and work on floor; kneel and bend.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Exhibit courteous and professional demeanor towards program participants, staff, and administration via verbal, written, physical, and electronic correspondence;
  • Able to address participants individually or in groups through speaking, demonstrating of activities, singing, dancing, and signing;
  • Requires good oral and written communication skills;
  • Able to properly handle and maintain highly confidential information.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a safe and responsible driving record.

PREFERRED:

  • Three (3) months experience working with keiki;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Canva publishing, and virtual meeting platforms;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture and values.
