The Los Angeles County Healing Centered Community Violence Intervention Initiative (LACHCCVI) :
In September 2024, the LA County Department of Public Health’s Office of Violence Prevention launched / initiated the Los Angeles County Healing Centered Community Violence Intervention Initiative (LACHCCVI). Funded by a 3-year $2 million dollar grant from the US Dept of Justice, the project brings together system and community-based stakeholders to grow the provision of culturally sensitive trauma informed mental health and healing services for youth and young adult survivors of violence, ages 14-30 and the frontline community violence intervention workers that support them. Building on the Office’s existing CVI strategy referred to as the Trauma Prevention Initiative, the project’s goal is to reduce violence in the five unincorporated communities of East LA, Westmont West Athens, Willowbrook, Florence Firestone, and Compton by contracting with local community-based organizations to provide non-traditional healing services to youth and young adult survivors of violence and frontline workers in these communities. The project focuses on integrating the healing services these organizations offer with street outreach, hospital violence intervention (HVI) and trauma recovery center (TRC) programming the Office currently supports as a part of its broader violence intervention prevention strategy. The initiative also addresses an often-overlooked component of CVI’s long-term viability : growth and development opportunities for youth and young adult survivors. It addresses this critical component of CVI through a Peace Fellowship Program that provides youth / young adult survivors with an opportunity to learn about community violence intervention and implement a mini grant funded peace project of their own design. The Office of Violence Prevention is seeking a Program Analyst to help with the planning and development of its Healing Centered Community Violence Intervention Initiative and to oversee its day to day to implementation.
