Job Summary
The Behavior Therapist (BT) Intern is an Internship position. The BT Intern provides individualized, early
intervention services directly to clients and other client related activities. The BT Intern actively works toward
improving his/her therapy skills. The BT Intern is expected to consistently provide high quality services that place
the highest priority on an ethical regard for the best interests of the clients.
Essential Functions
Provides direct therapy to clients following client program plans ensuring goals and objectives are being met
Documents therapy services accurately and timely (i.e. data collection, reporting parent and Partners In Excellence communications and client information)
Works under supervision to provide direct therapy
Completes the required technical training and participates in ongoing training opportunities
Redirects, intervenes, observes, and monitors client behaviors
Communicates effectively with all staff members
Makes sound decisions and uses good judgment when dealing with clients, parents, and coworkers
Demonstrates dependability and consistency in therapy and other job related activities
Communicates daily progress and client concerns to the appropriate staff members
Organizes and cleans clients space and equipment
Assists in keeping the facility safe, organized, sanitary, and guides others to do the same
Assists clients with personal care including: dressing, toileting, personal hygiene, food, nutrition, and diet needs
Attends and participates in meetings
Reports all safety concerns to the Safety Director or his/her direct supervisor
Maintains client confidentiality at all times
Greets parents and clients by name and engages in respectful conversations with clients and fellow employees
Engages only in competent exchanges of information with parents. Seeks assistance when necessary.
Uses discretion when discussing personal information with coworkers and parents
Answers basic questions from parents or seeks answers from others
Follows supervisors directions
Respects and positively reinforces co-workers
Respects Partners property and assets
Maintains a professional appearance, wearing comfortable clothing that meets or exceeds Partners dress code
Maintains a positive attitude and accepts feedback from supervisors in a respectful and constructive manner
Promotes Partners mission statement at and away from work
Asks for assistance from appropriate staff when unsure what to do
Reports issues/concerns to the appropriate person
Arrives on time for all shifts and has a positive attendance record
Responds to pages in a timely manner
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age
General knowledge of typical and special needs clients
Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds
Computer proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
Dependable, consistent, and tactful
Ability to problem solve and make appropriate decisions
Successfully passed an initial and subsequent background checks (no history of felonies, substantiated client maltreatment or vulnerable adult incidents, or disqualifying misdemeanors)
Must possess the interpersonal skills to be playful, enthusiastic, and bring a high level of energy into the therapeutic situation
Must have demonstrated the ability to read written treatment directions, collect numeric data, and write progress notes
Must have demonstrated the ability to work with a team and comply with supervisory direction
Must have demonstrated a clear ability to accept corrective feedback, comply with supervisory direction, and have shown a solid history of seeking and completing required and optional training
