Summary
The Accountant II is responsible for a wide variety of accounting, operational and other financial tasks as assigned. The Accountant II must be organized, detail orientated, analytical and have a high degree of accuracy while performing a multitude of tasks. The Accountant II must be able to relate well to vendors, and all levels of staff. The Accountant II performs tasks and job functions with minimal supervision.
The Accountant II reports to the Controller and may work closely with the COSO and CLO, the Accountant I, and other branch/office personnel.
Performs Accounting operations, which includes financial accounting and accounts payable. Oversees the system of internal controls over Accounting functions to minimize risk.
Key Responsibilities
1.Close the monthly books and prepare monthly financial statements and board oversight reports.
2.Ensures that the financial reports comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
3.Manages vendor subsidiary records, inputs vendor payments and cuts vendor payments weekly.
4.Prepares monthly investment accounting entries and reconciles accounts.
5.Manage loan participation, reporting and reconciling, supervise entries.
6.Reconciles and supervises entries for off trial balance loans.
7.Reviews corporate credit card reconciliation and support and prepares payments
8.Prepares quarterly reports for preparation of the Asset Liability Management analysis.
9.Manage borrowing capacity and collateral positions at corporate credit unions.
10.Manage Real Estate Tax Appeal Process.
11.Submit VISA quarterly operating certificate.
12.Assists external auditors and provides required statements and information for all audits
13.Prepare quarterly budget reviews.
14.Coordinates the preparation of the corporate tax return.
15.Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
16.Comply with local, state and federal government requirements.
17.Identifies and recommends updates to the accounting processes and procedures.
18.Maintain investment premium/discount schedule and post monthly amortization/accretion.
19.Prepare and mail vendor payments.
20.Prepare the quarterly 5300 Call Report.
21.Conduct special accounting studies, analysis, and special projects as requested.
22.Basic understanding of all PFCU products and services to perform duties as assigned.
23.Keeps abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in regulations, technology current events, credit union, banking, and lending trends.
24.Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards; works effectively with members, co-workers, management, and vendors. Displays and promotes teamwork. May represent PFCU in SEG and community functions to promote the credit union in a positive light.
25. Ensures adherence to company all policies and procedures and Banking/Credit Union Regulations; adheres to all regulatory compliance including generally accepted accounting principles.
26.Performs additional duties as required and may be utilized in other PFCU offices and departments as business needs dictate.
Scope
The Accountant II works under minimal supervision following established guidelines and procedures. This person has an analytical and operational skill set, pro-active, cross functional, action orientated, self-motivated, and detail orientated. The Accountant II reports to the Controller and can work with Accountant I, COSO, CLO, Operations Department, and other office personnel. S/he must possess solid analytical skillset, communication (oral and written) skills, detail orientated, and diligence. Additionally, s/he must meet all required PFCU and regulatory compliance training.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Requirements
1.Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration required
2.Minimum of 1 year of related experience. Prior cash handling, credit union or banking experience preferred. Experience in working with and assisting others in a professional setting.
3.Strong analytic and operational skillset. Previous work with general ledgers and/or in an accounting or financial operations department.
4.Excellent verbal, written communication skills, well-organized, ability to multi-task, accuracy and detail orientated.
5.In-depth understanding of credit union or banking or lending products, services, policies and procedures.
6.Results driven, goal and service oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
7.Trustworthy with the ability to maintain highest level of integrity; bondable.
8.Proficiency in all PFCU's software applications including member applications and Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, etc.
9.Must be flexible regarding work schedule as evening hours may be necessary.
Additional Information and Requirements
The Accountant II performs a major portion of his/her duties through verbal and written communications. It is critical that s/he possess the ability to communicate with clarity, while understanding and explaining complex situations to team members and outside contacts. Accuracy is essential and s/he must possess the ability to proofread documentation and correspondence to ensure free of errors and fraud. The person will spend a good portion of the day sitting and may be mobile throughout the credit union for purposes of meetings, working with others etc. The ability to move or lift files, boxes and general office equipment if needed. Must be able to Lift up to 15 pounds at times. Able to travel as needed (to all PFCU offices).
