Job Overview
We are looking for an organized, detail-oriented associate to assist our finance department with day-to-day financial procedures. The Accounting Associate will analyze information, maintain complete and accurate records, assist with routine accounting duties, monitor financial activities of direct service providers, provide ongoing technical assistance, and cross-train for other finance positions in order to fill in as needed.
To succeed as an Accounting Associate, you should be committed to providing efficient, reliable support to finance department members, other departments, and external parties. You should possess in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and best practices in financial management. An outstanding Accounting Associate will be someone whose expertise results in accurate financial reporting and who possesses training and/or experience in non-profit accounting.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the finance department in daily, monthly, and annual activities, including generating financial reports, maintaining budgets, keying journal entries, cash receipts and accounts payable invoices, payroll administration, and assisting with audits and resolving discrepancies.
- Reviewing monthly bank statement reconciliations and financial status reports.
- Reviewing payroll and employee withholdings for accuracy.
- Monitoring and advising funded activities on rules and guidelines related to fiscal procedures and accountability.
- Providing compilations of monitoring status reports.
- Using computers and various databases and software that support monitoring and reporting requirements.
- Analyzing financial data and assisting with audits, reviews, and tax preparations.
- Maintaining subject matter expertise of monitoring and fiscal compliance requirements and best practices.
- Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with direct service providers.
- Reviewing existing financial policies and procedures to ensure regulatory and grant compliance.
- Coordinating with the Quality Assurance Specialists and the Contracts Coordinator to ensure direct service providers are fulfilling fiscal, programmatic and contractual obligations.
- Learning other roles and tasks within the finance department through training, and filling in for other finance staff as needed.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance or related field.
- 2-4 years of recent, progressively responsible (preferably non-profit) accounting experience.
- Additional experience may be substituted for education with the requisite skills.
- Exceptional time management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of accounting principles and current financial legislation.
- Strong analytical and math skills.
- Proficiency with computers, accounting software, and MS Office.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to accurately and efficiently analyze and input data.

Pay: $16.54 - $18.60 per hour
