Position Description:
The Controller plays an integral part on the SCIPI Finance team as this position oversees the business operations of Parts Midwest, Inc. (PMI) and Vehicle Personalization of Canada (VPOC). This position will have full general ledger and monthly financial statement reporting responsibility. Other areas of support include leading the annual budgeting process, long range strategic planning, development and report on key performance indicators, reporting on warehouse and distribution metrics, analysis of spending trends, and provide tactical financial direction where needed. This position reports to the CFO for SCIPI.
This position has a base salary range of $115,000 - $130,000 plus an annual bonus based on goals and company performance. In addition to the annual bonus, there is an annual contribution to your ESOP account which is fully funded by SCIPI!
Essential Functions:
- Monthly Financial Management & Performance Evaluation: Lead the monthly financial close, including preparing and approving journal entries. Prepare and report on Monthly Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and cash flow statements, including an executive summary, and evaluating financial performance. Responsible for general ledger accuracy, and balance sheet accounts are reconciled while addressing financial inquiries
- Performance Monitoring & Operational Insights: monitor and report on key performance indicators, support efforts to reduce budget variances, improve warehouse productivity, help control costs. Provide insights into operational metrics (e.g., Gross Profit margin, inventory, obsolescence, warehouse efficiency).
- Budgeting, Profit Analysis, & Financial Guidance: Lead the annual budgeting process for the companies and forecasts as needed. Collaborate with management on profit analysis, expense controls, cost reduction, and inventory management, and provide guidance on financial inquiries and performance improvement recommendations
- Team Mentoring & Tax Compliance: Oversee a Senior Accountant along with an Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable team, ensure timely collections, accurate deposit applications. Review and file required sales tax forms with state, local, and Canadian provincial agencies.
- Meeting Participation & Team Leadership: participate in departmental, weekly L10, and quarterly strategic planning meetings, lead process improvement and automation projects, manage an accounting team of three, and handle additional duties assigned by the CFO of SCIPI and President of Parts Midwest.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and corporate financial management practices.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Familiarity with financial software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, or similar tools
- Proficiency in financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis techniques.
- Demonstrated Ability to lead and mentor an accounting team
- Ability to speak with customers, suppliers, and all levels within the organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
- High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all financial reports and transactions.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 5 years of experience in a financial management role, with a focus on accounting, financial reporting, and analysis. Will consider associate’s degree in accounting with further years of experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership position, managing a team, preferably some of that experience in a Controller role.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for a distribution company or similar industries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Experience:
- Advanced certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA), would be an asset.
- Experience with currency exchange between Canadian Dollar and U.S. currency, will be helpful but not required.
- Public accounting experience is a plus
- Familiarity with NetSuite is a plus.
