TRIO Upward Bound is a federally funded program that seeks to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students that successfully graduate high school, enroll in college and complete a college degree.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
- Provide academic support during assigned hours
- Assist with homework and explain concepts in a manner that students understand.
- Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.
- Perform front desk activities, including scheduling, record-keeping, and tutoring-coordination
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs, abilities and interests.
- Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement.
- Mastering of appropriate and effective learning techniques and concepts for learners of different age levels.
- Communicate with parents as applicable.
- Use active listening strategies which allows students to determine content and pace of tutoring.
- Update Ed. Advisors / Program Director of student progress
- Assist with local events, as needed and perform other duties as assigned by TRIO Upward Bound Director / Ed. Advisors to achieve program goals and objectives.
REQUIREMENTS :
Desire to work with first-generation, low-income students to increase access to higher education and motivate students to succeed.Strong knowledge of high school academic subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science with strong GPA in subject or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and / or trainingExcellent communication skillsFlexibility about work environmentOpenness to training and skills developmentAbility to work with students one-on-one and in small groupsAvailability to work at least 6 hours per week during 2024-2025 academic yearHigh School DiplomaPrior experience working with pre-college students in a classroom setting, or after school program focusing on academic improvement and college preparation.Fluency in English and SpanishAPPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

As a variable hour employee, you must qualify for medical benefits pursuant to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as the Affordable Care Act or ACA). Pasadena Area Community College District (the District) has defined its measurement period as 12 months, which means you will need to be employed by the district for 12 months .
The District will measure your hours every month. To qualify, you must work an average of 30 hours or more per week, within the measurement period, to be eligible for medical benefits only. In the event that you qualify for medical benefits, you will be contacted via email with further information.
