Job Summary

The Nuclear Criticality Safety Consultant provides technical assistance in developing criticality safety documents and analyses, criticality safety controls, and related technical support documentation. Ensure that the development of criticality safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, and applicable controls are implemented in field procedures. Conduct Criticality Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals.

Duties / Responsibilities

Typical job duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Collaborate with operating organizations to author criticality safety evaluations and perform NCS analyses and develop the safety basis for fissile material operations.
• Lead NCS response to programmatic issues and criticality process deviations/infractions.
• Participate in NCS emergency response preparation (emergency procedures, plans, exercises, and drills).
• Develop proposed changes to existing NCS programmatic policy and implementing documents.
• Conduct NCS training for all levels of employees involved in fissionable material operations including Operations personnel and NCS personnel.
• Perform computer models to support NCS analyses.
• Establish limits and controls for plant activities to maintain safe, effective, and efficient operations.
• Ensure NCS requirements are adequately implemented.
• Conduct audits and inspections, incident investigations, and design reviews.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications / Education / Experience

• Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics or related field.
• Demonstrated previous experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining criticality safety documents.
• Ability to obtain “Q” security clearance [Active “Q” within past two years preferred].
• Demonstrated proficiency of SCALE/KENO and/or MCNP.
• Demonstrated personal accountability for facility/project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work.

• Ability to apply software solutions to engineering problems.
• Proficient with MS Office applications.

Working Location

• The primary work location will be in south-central Ohio supporting the Piketon, OH HALEU Demonstration facility.
