General Description
Essential Job Functions
Performs skilled fabrication and welding work in the installation, alteration, repair, and maintenance of equipment, materials, and parts used by all of Operations & Maintenance. Builds new parts in accordance with blueprints, drawings, or directions. Performs SMAW, GMAW and GTAW welding and safely work with welding processes and safely work with welding gases and supplies in the fabrication, welding, and repair of parts and equipment. gases and supplies in the fabrication and repair of parts and equipment. Performs skilled bench work in a shop environment operating power tools, hand tools, belt sanders, drills, drill presses, Ironworkers, box-pan brakes, rollers, plasma cutter, band saw, benders, acetylene torches and other fabrication equipment. Performs creative metal work undertime line pressures. Reads blueprints and sketches to determine proper design and materials required. Develop means to accomplish necessary fabrication. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of standard practices, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in fabrication and welding.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and adheres to necessary safety precautions.
- Ability to attain fine tolerances in construction and repair of tools and equipment.
- Ability to measure and apply arithmetical calculations.
- Ability to interpret and work from sketches or blueprints to determine layout, materials, and dimensions utilized in fabricating and welding.
- Skill in the use of hand tools and shop equipment.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work based on changing needs of the departments to be serviced.
- Ability to use computer to log work documentation, hours, materials, parts & work order completion.
- Ability to research & orders materials as necessary to welding and fabrication.
Minimum Requirements
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to kneel, bend, stoop, and climb. Must be able to push and lift up to 100 lbs. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. Position is not limited to the shop; field work as well as other assignments may be required as necessary.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance or utilities. Preferred to have minimum three (3) years' experience in SMAW, GMAW and GTAW welding processes.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain a valid Florida CDL Class B with air brake endorsement within 180 days from date of hire. Welding Certifications are preferred.
