The Inmate Programs Technician is responsible for maintaining orderly operation and function of recreational reading and law libraries, and keeping accurate and complete records on usage by inmates. This position is responsible for maintaining programs records including volunteer and inmate attendance.
Essential Job Functions
Creation and maintenance of reports documenting inmate program attendance; fulfillment of all functions of the inmate law library: researching case law, signing out books, making copies and deliveries; inspecting and stamping books for inmate reading library; conducting exchange of inmate reading materials and recreational supplies as scheduled. Processing, screening, orientating and scheduling of inmate program volunteers, maintaining volunteer and contractor files; conducting annual update of volunteer information; preparing monthly inmate programs calendars, assisting in the facilitation of inmate programs, to include, but not limited to, reviewing program materials, copying documents and organizing program closets; oversight of the facility’s GED program, to include monitoring of students’ attendance and scheduling of GED testing sessions. Respond to inmate requests for Program, Law Library and Notary departments; conduct legal research for Pro-Se inmates; prepare correspondence and assistance via phone and e-mail to volunteers; track volunteer hours; track and log all inmate program attendance in JMS; track law library requests; other data entry as needed; creation and distribution of program certificates; process contractor and volunteer background checks; provide notary services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of CCIS/JMS/FMJS/Westlaw/FCIC/NCIC.
- Knowledge of Geographic locations.
- Knowledge of County and department procedures and policy.
- Knowledge of Human Diversity awareness.
- Knowledge of radio procedures.
- Knowledge of Prison Rape Elimination Act.
- Skilled in Time Management.
- Skilled in problem solving and using independent judgement.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and three (3) years' of experience using a computer and performing routine office duties OR an Associate degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.
