JOIN OUR TEAM AS A LABOR SUPERVISOR II!
The role of Labor Supervisor II involves supervisory work directing a crew involved in the maintenance/construction of County roads, bridges, rights-of-way, drainage systems, and special projects. Work is performed under the direction of the Labor Supervisor II.

Essential Job Functions

Directs the work of a maintenance crew including skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled employees engaged in paving/patching asphalt roads, installing, and repairing drainage pipes, building/repairing head walls and catch basins, repairing dirt roads and shoulders, and bridge repairs and/or mowing rights-of-way, cleaning and maintaining ditches and ponds. Trains, counsels, and evaluates the performance of subordinate employees. Enforces safety protection measures at work sites. Procures the tools, equipment, and materials required to perform the assigned projects. Controls the storage and issuance of equipment and materials. Instructs subordinate employees in proper work methods and practices and makes periodic inspections to ascertain that established methods and practices are followed. Responds courteously and effectively to complaints from the general public. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment to which assigned. Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, equipment, and materials used in support of Public Works operations.
  • Knowledge of the specific type and uses of Public Works equipment related to road reconstruction and bridge repair.
  • Knowledge of practices and techniques required for the safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Ability to direct the work of a large number of skilled, semiskilled, and unskilled employees.
  • Ability to prepare concise reports reflecting the work activities of the crew.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the general public.
  • Ability to read for comprehension.
  • Ability to use a computer to complete assignments, prepare communications, reports, and other documents as needed.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to climb, bend, stoop, and squat frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years of experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of highways. One (1) year experience in a supervisory capacity.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" within one (1) year from date of hire.
