Location : Various locations throughout Pasco County
General Description : Acts as a professional member of the pre-hospital emergency care team in providing comprehensive basic and advanced life support treatment, care and transportation. Support general firefighting work in a non-combat role.
Anticipated schedule is rotating 12-hour shifts on a "Panama-type" schedule.
Essential Job Functions
Performs orderly and systematic evaluations and examinations of scenes and patients. Provides care, treatment and transportation of patients in accordance with the knowledge and skills of a certified Paramedic under the provisions of Chapter 401 F.S. Responds to emergencies with fire or rescue companies and performs related functions as required. Also works with mobile integrated health team, as assigned. Drives and operates apparatus as assigned. Is subject to emergency call-back as part of the regular duty. Completes reports and records and operates radios according to system standards and guidelines. Ensures that all supplies, equipment and apparatus are sufficient, operational and properly maintained. Reports deficiencies to supervisor immediately. Performs maintenance chores of quarters, station and grounds. Attends and participates in company drills and training sessions. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of practices and procedures in accordance with United States Department of Transportation advanced Paramedic training program.
Knowledge and ability to successfully pass a comprehensive orientation and testing process approved by the Emergency Services Medical director.
Ability to gain knowledge of the street system and geography.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn and operate relatively complex equipment.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform prolonged and difficult work under adverse conditions.
Ability to learn a wide variety of duties and methods within a reasonable training period.
Ability and willingness to learn new methods and techniques.
Minimum Requirements
PHYSICAL SKILLS : Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication. Position requires ability to reach, climb, pull, push, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, jump, run and drive without restrictions or limitations.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE : Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS : Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must possess a State of Florida Paramedic Certification, valid CPR (BLS) Certification, valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification.

Mid-management / Professional grade, and management personnel may receive 40 hours of admin leave per calendar year.
