JOIN OUR TEAM AS A TRAFFIC SIGNAL TECHNICIAN I!
The Traffic Signal Technician I role involves skilled electrical work in the installation and maintenance of roadway lighting, traffic signals and other electrical or electronic traffic-control devices. The ideal candidate will possess experience in electronics maintenance and Traffic Signal maintenance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Installs and maintains roadway lighting equipment, traffic signal equipment, including poles, controllers, various types of detectors, communications equipment, underground and overhead cables, and any other associated equipment.
  • Works from bucket truck or platform truck as required.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections as required, including cleaning optical systems, replacing LED modules, cables, and adjusting fixtures.
  • Provides after-hours emergency service working on a rotational, standby schedule.
  • In order to be placed on the rotational, standby schedule, employees must be Pasco County residents as County vehicles are not authorized outside the County.
  • Employees may be subject to after hours call back to assist in emergencies.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.
  • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to gain knowledge of methods, practices, techniques, and materials of the traffic signal, electrical, or electronics trade.
  • Ability to read and work from plans, schematics, and displays.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and locate defective devices and make repairs.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer.
  • Ability to operate a variety of motor vehicles and trucks, including platform or bucket trucks.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Requires working outdoors. Position requires walking, stooping, bending, climbing, and stretching. Requires working at heights up to 55 feet above the ground from either a platform truck or bucket truck. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Graduation from an electrical or electronics trade school preferred. Four (4) years' experience in electronics maintenance or as an electrical journeyman. Two (2) years' experience in traffic signal maintenance and/or traffic signal construction preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class "B" with Air Brakes within three (3) months from date of hire. Must obtain an International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) or Florida Department of Transportation Work Zone Certification within one (1) year from date of hire. IMSA Level I or Level II Traffic Signal Certification preferred.
