Essential Job Functions
The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below:
- Installs, modifies, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs of water, wastewater collection and treatment, and reuse systems. This includes motors - fractional to 500HP, motor operated valves, various styles of check valves, altitude valves, control valves, air release valves, plug valves, submersible pumps, vertical turbine pumps, centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps, close couple pumps, diaphragm pumps, piston pumps, aeration blower equipment, mixers, mechanical bar screens, gear drives, compressed air systems, etc.
- Operates a variety of equipment, utility box/boom trucks, and other equipment to pull pumps, motors and equipment for preventative maintenance, repair, or replacement.
- Operates and maintains variety of hand tools, pneumatic tools, power tools, meters and specialized test equipment needed to maintain equipment in water, wastewater, and reuse systems.
- Identifies potential problems, troubleshoots, and take necessary corrective action in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, and conveyor systems.
- Maintains accurate records on treatment plant equipment, pumping stations, wells and reuse distribution equipment for maintenance and repair purposes through means of county’s computer management maintenance software (CMMS) and spreadsheet records.
- Completes assigned daily work orders.
- Maintains adequate stock of materials on assigned vehicle to ensure maintenance and repairs are made effectively and efficiently while coordinating restocking with store warehouse.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Performs emergency repair of water, wastewater and reuse systems including all equipment related and facilities as necessary.
- Assist in fabricating control panels, sluice gates, augers, equipment wear parts, conveyor systems, pipe restraint systems, and pipe support systems.
- Assists maintenance team in reviewing installation operational and maintenance manuals, pm schedules, plans, specifications, drawings of new construction, and rehabilitation projects and repair needs in water, wastewater and reclaim systems.
- Assists supervision in proper procurement of needed equipment and annual budget planning.
- Regular Attendance is required for this position.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of wastewater collection, pump station maintenance; irrigation, or plumbing system installation, repair, maintenance methods, procedures, equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles.
- Ability to learn supervisory techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of safe working procedures and practices, ability to recognize occupational hazards and implement appropriate safety precautions.
- Skill in operating motor vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to use a computer and related software, to include computerized based work order system (CMMS) and effectively communicate via a computer.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and perform maintenance work related to water, wastewater and reuse treatment facilities.
- Ability to plan, schedule, and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and detailed maintenance records and reports.
- Ability to read for comprehension.
Minimum Requirements
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication. Ability to frequently bend, climb, stoop, squat, and walk. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods of time. Must be available for overtime work as required. Work location my vary for this location. Ability to work outside, occasionally under adverse conditions.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and five (5) years of direct experience in water, wastewater treatment plant or reclaim water maintenance or experience with various types of motors, pumps, and related appurtenances required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida CDL Class 'B" driver's license. Must possess the following: Confined Space Certification, Mobile Crane Signal, Mobile Crane Rigging and Mobile Crane Operators Certificates, FEMA 100, 700, 200 and 800 certifications, and a FWPCOA (A) Wastewater Collection Technician Certification.
