The Field Inspector I - Electrical role involves responsible and skilled work in the inspection of electrical installations and equipment for conformity with the National Electrical Code, related laws, and ordinances. Employees are responsible for performing both field and office work in the County Electrical Inspection Program. Duties require technical examinations and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work.
- Inspects electrical installations in new and old buildings during construction and upon completion.
- Examines buildings for hazardous electrical conditions and reports same.
- Advises contractors and homeowners on electrical installations.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of the provisions of the National Electrical Code and ordinances; or ability to acquire this knowledge.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining, and operating a variety of electrical installations, equipment, and appliances.
- Knowledge of possible defects and faults in electrical wiring, appliances, and of standard testing devices and effective corrective measures.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications of electrical installations.
- Ability to enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with builders, contractors, and the general public.
- Ability to detect faults and the knowledge of when defects are most easily found and remedied.
- Ability to use a computer.
- Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Applicants must have five (5) years of experience in the electrical construction trade as a supervisor, foreman, electrical contractor, or licensed journeyman. This experience must be verifiable and signed off by a contractor, engineer or architect or they will not qualify to apply for the provisional Electrical Inspector license.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Applicants must obtain provisional license as an Electrical Inspector within 120 days of hire. Applicants must successfully pass the examination to achieve F.S. 468 Standard Certification as an Electrical Inspector within one (1) year from date of hire in order to fulfill minimum Electrical Inspector I certification standards.
