The Field Inspector II - Mechanical role involves responsible and skilled work in the inspections involved with the current Standard Mechanical Code, Chapter 527, Florida Statutes, and the first three chapters of NFPA-58, dealing with LP and natural gas and related laws and ordinances. Employees are responsible for performing both field and office work in the County gas and mechanical inspection program. Duties require technical examination and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work.Makes preliminary, final, and periodic inspections of gas and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with regulations. Receives complaints of violations and inspects same. Advises contractors, builders, and homeowners on gas and mechanical installations. Performs records maintenance, clerical work and activity reports. Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of the provisions of the Pasco County gas and mechanical ordinances and codes; or ability to acquire this knowledge.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining, and operating a variety of air conditioning, mechanical and gas installations, equipment, and appliances.
- Knowledge of possible defects and faults in gas and mechanical facilities, and of standard testing devices and effective corrective measures.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications of air conditioning, mechanical, and gas installations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with builders, contractors, and the general public, and to enforce these laws and regulations firmly, but tactfully.
- Ability to detect faults and the knowledge of when defects are most easily found and remedied.
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Requires working indoors and outdoors. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to visit job sites. Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, and climb to make inspections. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma supplemented by five (5) years of experience in the air conditioning and mechanical trade as a supervisor, foreman, or air conditioning or mechanical contractor. One (1) year of experience in the installation, venting, service or repair of gas appliances or piping.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Standard certification in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, as a Gas/Mechanical Inspector. Must maintain and complete continuing education requirements by the state of Florida for the Licenses held.
