What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Assistant - Florida Friendly Landscaping position at Pasco County?
- Highly knowledgeable on the current status of science and technology underlying urban environmental horticulture, especially in relation to water resources.
- Working knowledge of landscaping practices and ornamental plants suited to Central Florida.
- Proficiency in using personal computers and word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
- Demonstrated ability in effective public speaking to small and large groups.
- Must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals and community partners.
PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to lift and carry, as required in loading, unloading and setting up exhibit displays. Position requires ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Regular meeting attendance, some overnight travel, and occasional weekend activities are necessary. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Professional experience in applied horticulture, biology, environmental science, or related field required. Experience working with residential or commercial property developers and homeowners preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with good driving record and reliable transportation. Ability to earn GI-BMP (Green Industries-Best Management Practices) Certification within six (6) months of hire.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends. Must be able to perform hands-on, physical labor in the gardens. Use of personal vehicle for in county travel will be necessary but mileage reimbursement is available.
