The Itom Ili Tosapo Am Remtituane Early Learning Center Teacher is crucial is fostering and nurturing our children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development, growth as intellectuals and cultural identity as Yaqui Intellectuals. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring a child’s safety and well-being while at the ITTAR Early Childhood Learning Center. The incumbent will plan and implement age-appropriate lesson plans, monitor students within the classroom and on school grounds, conduct parent-teacher conferences, and maintain student records. They will be a part of a team that provides a caring, safe, nurturing environment, and age-appropriate program for children 0-6 that are Yaqui-centric. The Childcare Teacher will be committed to creating an immersion environment by using the Hiaki language whenever possible.
Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in education.
Three years of educational, social services, or related experience or any combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
Preferred:
Master's degree in educational, social service, or related field.
Five years of educational, social services, or related experience.
Early Childhood Learning Experience.
Experience working in or with Indigenous Communities.
Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
Proficiency in the Yaqui language is preferred.
Special Requirements:
- Create and present lesson plans that derive from culturally relevant material that foster children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development using Yaqui-centric understanding, culture, and knowledge.
- Conduct research and consult with the curriculum team and coordinator in designing and developing a new Yaqui-centered curriculum.
- Organizes and provides developmentally appropriate and culturally sustaining early childhood education programs; plans and implements curriculum and education for children ages 0 to 6.
- Participate in the Curriculum Builders Colloquies to support curricula building that is Yaqui organic and authentic.
- Participate in the Community Curriculum Review processes to support curricular revision efforts and ensure community voice and authenticity.
- Work with leadership, other teachers, and personnel to take the appropriate measures to meet our children's individual needs.
- Collaborates with teachers, staff, and leadership to make sure that all student needs and experiences are affirmed and included in these intellectual and culturally affirming experiences.
- Organize and supervise student activities that are culturally sustaining, culturally responsive, and/or Yaqui-centric.
- Provide support and remediation to our children that are culturally sustaining, culturally responsive and/or Yaqui-centric.
- Remains current on best practices and research of culturally sustaining teaching, culturally responsive teaching, educational equity, and decolonizing education, and other liberatory theories.
- Build, cultivate, and nurture positive relationships with learners, parents, families, and community.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by the supervisor or director.
- Write and compile individual assessments of each child's development; completes daily inventories, child attendance, and related reports
- Work with Elders/fluent speakers, attend professional development opportunities, and Early Childhood Education opportunities to ensure that developmental milestones are being attained but the Hiaki Language immersion environment is fulfilled.
- Comply with mandated health and safety measures, child abuse reporting, etc.

- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous ways of learning, including alternative approaches, social-emotional learning, universal design, outdoor/place-based learning, and the collaborative design of student learning plans (with classroom and other teachers).
- Designing, coordinating, and delivering Culturally Sustaining, Culturally Responsive and/or Yaqui-centric curriculum.
- Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests and/or are Culturally Sustaining, Culturally Responsive, and/or Yaqui-centric.
- Relationship-based ability to facilitate the development of strategies that will enhance the personal, social/emotional, cultural, and educational development of Yaqui learners.
- Knowledge of cognitive, instructional, equity-based pedagogies that are Culturally Sustaining, Culturally Responsive, and/or Yaqui-centric to ensure intellectual, social, emotional, linguistic, and physical development to promote a powerful sense of self and cultural affirmation.
- Knowledge of best practices and research of Culturally Sustaining Teaching, Culturally Responsive Teaching, Educational Equity and Decolonial Education, and other liberatory theories
- An understanding of effective strategies for second language learning.
- Knowledge of the impact of trauma on children and Trauma-based pedagogies and learning.
- Knowledge and experience working with culturally and ethnically diverse student populations and families.
- Knowledge, experience, and proven ability in utilizing differentiated instructional approaches within the classroom that support effective instruction and engage students.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and lesson design.
- Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation.
- Strong command of the English language, including proficiency with grammar and punctuation.
- Recordkeeping principles.
- Knowledge of Yaqui language, culture, customs, resources, and traditions or a willingness to learn.
- Expertise in essential electronic data management and report preparation techniques.
- Lived experiences with conversational Hiaki or experience teaching the language and fluency would be an asset but is not a requirement

- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
- Must possess and maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications or be able to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Must possess and maintain TB Clearance or be able to obtain it within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Free of any infectious disease
- Complete Blood-borne pathogens, hazardous material training and other trainings that are assigned.
- This position may require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends.
