What are the responsibilities and job description for the IUM Classroom Helper position at Pascua Yaqui Tribe?
The IUM (Ili Uusim Mahtawa'apo Pascua Yaqui Head Start) Classroom Helper assists the Teacher and Co-Teacher with planning, organizing and implementing lessons; prepares materials, observes children, maintains reports, and records.
Skills and Abilities:
- Assist teachers/ Co-Teacher with preparation and implementation of classroom materials and instruction.
- Dine with children to serve as a role model unless excused for health or religious reasons.
- Assist in supervision of children.
- Assist Teacher/Co-Teacher in classroom maintenance and ensures a clean, sanitary and healthy environment.
- Participate in staff training.
- Attend staff meetings and conferences.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
- Head Start Program policies and procedures;
- Writing notes, reports, and submitting data;
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.
Skills and Abilities:
- Be punctual and dependable;
- Develop a positive rapport with children with interest and enthusiasm;
- Work with pre-school aged children and deliver a planned lesson;
- Work with the parents, guardians and grandparents of pre-school aged children;
- Ability to accept change, be flexible, and complete daily assignments in reasonable time;
- Willingness to develop new skills;
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
AND
- Trilingual English/Spanish/Hiaki is preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required;
- Must have recent TB test results (within one year) or as approved by physician;
- Must be First Aid/CPR Certified, or obtain certification within one (1) year.Failure to maintain a current First Aid/CPR Certification may result in removal from this position;
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
