The Program Coordinator Prevention Services supports daily program operations, acts as the lead and coordinator the program and staff, determines the appropriate use of internal and external resources, and provides required reporting documents. The incumbent reports to and coordinates operations with other departments and outside agencies, servicing Tribal members in Maricopa area. The Prevention Services Program addresses behavioral health issues of substance abuse with an emphasis on under-age drinking by providing education programs for the youth in the community
  1. Act as the program lead with duties including: prioritize and assign day-to-day work in the Guadalupe area, assist with staff training and evaluating staff assigned to this project.
  2. Seek and maintain funding from outside funding sources.
  3. Monitor program budget levels, expenditures, initiate budget revisions as needed to maintain balanced budget.
  4. Develop database to tracking demographics of direct and indirect served populations.
  5. Develop and maintain policies and procedures relevant to program content and implementation.
  6. Coordinate with other departments and programs to evaluate and review practices and procedures; make recommendations to reduce harm, disabilities, and deaths due to substance abuse and under-age drinking.
  7. Develop and implement program objectives. Incorporate tribal cultural in educational activities.
  8. Develop youth programs to educate youth on dangers of substance abuse and alcohol abuse.
  9. Write, review, and update semi-annual and annual reports summarizing activities and program progress. Submit reports to ADHS in a timely fashion.
  10. Develop and implement assessment tools and procedures, including but not limited to the creation of a database, survey tools and reporting documents analyzing the data.
  11. Develop, present, and monitor educational programs for the community on substance abuse prevention.
  12. Attend and participate on committees to promote and gain support for program.
  13. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
Knowledge of:
  • Supervisory and budget management principles and practices;
  • Assigned department operations and functions;
  • Report preparation techniques;
  • Develop a Prevention Logic Model based on local substance and alcohol statistical data and the Strategic Prevention Framework process;
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations;
  • Principles and practices of prevention education and counseling;
  • Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Manage and execute multiple tasks and work independently;
  • Exercise judgment and discretion, prioritize and assign work;
  • Plan and execute group travel involving instate and out of state destinations;
  • Work with ad hoc tribal and outside agencies committees to plan community events;
  • Travel to various prevention workshops/conferences;
  • Crisis intervention, teaching and listening;
  • Manage and oversee a budget, report on expenses to ADHS, conduct surveys of participants, perform data analysis and provide required reports to ADHS in a timely fashion;
  • Complex problem solving and safety planning;
  • Development and implementation of data base programs used for community surveys and grant required information;
  • Develop and prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, articles, documents and forms;
  • Work with individuals that are under emotional stress; provide appropriate emotional support;
  • Intervene with sensitivity to halt danger, increase safety and advocate for accountability. Make appropriate referrals as needed;
  • Implement project goals with minimal supervision;
  • Work effectively with individuals from other department, cities, agencies, organizations, and communities;
  • Maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Health or related field and four (4) years of experience with prevention related programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential job duties such as those listed above.
AND
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Special Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License; 
  • This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends; 
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
