What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator position at Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians?
Native Preference in hiring is given to qualified enrolled members of Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians and Native Americans in accordance with the Band’s (Preference Policy, Chapter 1-715 of the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians Tribal Policies). POSITION SUMMARY
Equipment Operator for site grading. Grade sites for development projects. Capable of running dirt moving and soil compaction equipment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Capable of operating a D7 Caterpillar Dozer to push dirt from high points to low points. Read grade stakes for cut and fill. Other equipment required will be a sheepsfoot roller and water truck. Maintaining the equipment daily and getting maintenance done by outside services for fuel, oil and repairs. Daily reports for documenting work and issues for the day’s work.
KNOWLEDGE OF
Operation and use of heavy motorized construction and maintenance equipment with special reference to bulldozers and heavy duty transport trucks; methods, materials, tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair of light automotive equipment; methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in preventive maintenance and servicing of heavy equipment and trucks; provisions of the California Vehicle Code as they apply to the operation of trucks and other heavy motorized equipment; road construction and maintenance practices; safety practices in the use of heavy equipment particularly in heavily populated areas; operation of equipment under a wide variety of working conditions including work in snow and in heavy sand.
SAFETY
- Ability to communicate safety hazards to employees, co-workers and guests and report them immediately to your supervisor.
- Maintain security and privacy of patients, guests, and clinic employees. Notify supervisor of trespassers and other issues.
- Wear safety equipment as required by OSHA.
- Use materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment to avoid waste, unnecessary damage, or accidents.
- Responsible for ensuring that all duties, responsibilities, and operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved, including themselves.
- Take appropriate corrective actions to address matters pertaining to employee health and safety that have been brought to their attention.
- Other safety duties as assigned by Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Equipment operator experience.
- Two years of experience in operating heavy motorized equipment (including such equipment as the D7 and D6 bulldozers and heavy-duty transport trucks) which shall have involved some work in rugged terrain.
- Possession of a California driver license valid for the operation of any combination of vehicles. (Applicants who do not possess this license will be admitted to the examination but must secure the license prior to appointment.)
- Good communication, including both written and verbal skills.
- Ability to provide feedback, present problems in a professional manner and accept constructive criticism both on an individual basis and within a group.
- Must maintain a professional and courteous relationship with all employees.
- Ability to adhere to all company policies and procedures including safety, security, and emergency procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms and lift and/or move 20-50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stoop. Position may require exertion up to and exceeding 100 pounds of force occasionally. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed outdoors at development sites. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high (hearing ear plugs may be required) and at times you may be asked to enter small and tight spaces. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to wet, warm, hot, and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and heat.
