Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant
Reports to: Nurse Manager
Department: Residential Services
Purpose: Certified Medical Assistants is a professional who performs both administrative and routine clinical tasks in the residential settings of the agency. Certified Medical Assistants job duties focus on both administrative and clerical needs of their facility as well as clinical responsibilities like assisting medical practitioners during routine clinical exams, monitoring medication passes, facilitate and support residents in accessing medical care, ensuring medication counts are correct and medication monitoring procedures are followed, compete routine medical tasks such as temperature, blood pressure and blood draws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage office telephone, including answering calls and returning messages.
- Complete an initial medical assessment of admissions to the program including; temperature, Covid 19 screening, Covid 19 testing, assessment of immunization status and administration of immunization.
- Identify medication status of new admissions and any gaps in medications the resident presents with as well as work with medical care provider to ensure that medications are covered adequately.
- Schedule medical appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments and ensure that documentation of appointment outcome and follow up recommendations are followed.
- Document residents' medical information, including medical history and health insurance information in agency and medical provide EHR.
- Ensure the initial physicals are completed and documented according to agency policies.
- Enter all medication in agency eMAR and ensure that refills are done in a timely fashion
- Perform data entry tasks to document resident records within facility databases and maintain resident files.
- Coordinate daily medical activities, greeting residents and checking residents in and out for their any appointments with the agency’s medical provider.
- Conduct daily health clinic to screen residents for medical issues, complaints and needs. Consult with Nurse Manager on addressing those needs and set up telehealth or in person appointment with agency’s medical care provider.
- Recording residents' vital signs, documenting physicians' notes and changes in medical conditions
- Taking tissue and fluid samples and sending them in for laboratory analysis.
- Schedule appointments for agency Psychiatrist, assist the Psychiatrist as necessary and ensure that orders are followed, medication orders/changes are documented, staff are aware of any changes and orders are carried out.
- Assist agency’s medical care provider during routine checkups, procedures and other physical exams.
- Monitor and document resident symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams.
- Provide compassionate resident support and care, attention and assistance during office visits.
- Prepare, administer and monitor medications under the direction of Nurse Manager and agency’s medical care provider.
- Maintain all files and documentation necessary for contract and licensing audits
Additional Duties may be assigned as required.

Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
