What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Center Assistant- Student Support Services-STEM (PT) position at Passaic County Community College?
We are seeking a Learning Center Assistant for our Student Support Services–STEM Program. The Learning Center Assistant supports program students within the Learning Center by providing academic assistance, maintaining the learning environment, and ensuring resources are accessible and effectively used. The Learning Center Assistant will guide program participants in ensuring they feel a sense of belonging to the program and college. This role requires strong communication skills, a passion for helping others, and an ability to manage various administrative tasks related to the center's operations.
This is a grant funded, part–time, hourly position.
Example of Duties:
- Assist with maintaining a positive and welcoming environment in the Learning Center, ensuring students feel supported and comfortable.
- Provide proactive and strategic outreach to students to maintain regular use of the Learning Center, to maintain contact with staff and connect them to resources.
- Assist students with academic tasks and learning strategies, including homework, research, studying, time management, and test preparation.
- Assist with administrative duties, such as maintaining records, scheduling appointments, managing the check–in and check–out process for Learning Center usage of center resources, and updating databases.
- Support staff with the preparation and organizing of program events and services.
- Respond to student inquiries, either in–person, by phone, virtual, or via email, in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure the Learning Center is clean, organized, and well-equipped with learning materials and supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in at least 9 credits at PCCC.
- Completion of at least 2 semesters at PCCC and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Experience in a tutoring, teaching assistant, or customer service role preferred.
- Good technology, communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Must be very organized, detail oriented and maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as program may require.
The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.
Compensation: Compensation is determined by a variety of criteria, including but not limited to, previous relevant experience, education level, and certifications. The minimum hourly pay for this position is $16.
